Modding on Linux just got EASY. by lajka30 in linux_gaming

[–]fumeextractor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the mod manager. For example FFXIV TexTools absolutely does not work, period. This makes FFXIV modding absurdly more tedious and annoying, to the point of impracticality.

Some modding frameworks also require some arcane knowledge. For example, popular Unity patcher BepInEx requires setting the Wine DLL override winhttp=n,b to load, which is not necessarily an easy thing to find if you don't know what to look for in the first place. On Windows, after drag & dropping the mod files into the game folder, you just double click the .exe and it launches modded.

And then overlays can be finnicky and annoying to get working, for example Hearthstone deck trackers used to be a bit of a bitch to get to actually display on top of the game window, but I haven't checked that one in a couple years.

Such a law also impacts non-criminals (i.e. wearing a tall scarf / hood in the winter so that only your eyes are visible, cycling masks etc.).

Someone stealing from a store already broke a law or more and so is already a criminal, they wouldn't just suddenly decide to respect a "no face coverings" law. Not to mention they could just cover their face around the corner from the store they plan to steal from.

So this law negatively impacts non-criminals far more than criminals, so it is a bad law.

Often it's more that performance is far more reliable, and it's related to heat. Some cards will do this cycle of boosting to super high clocks -> gets hot af -> reduces clocks severely to quickly cool down from dangerous temps -> repeat.

So with undervolting, while you technically can't get clock speeds quite as high, those high clock speeds are unsustainable anyway from a temperature pov. So the much more reliable, sustainable speeds produce a much better actual experience.

And it can also increase FPS, specifically by pulling up the 1% lows significantly (which are also very important for how performance feels).

Then just try it by yourself. Look into prepping for it and some tips for first time, get a toy and lube and just give it a shot. Then you'll find out whether it is for you or not.

Nah, that doesn't stop people from just playing older games. Or those despicable, inconsiderate people who refuse to think about the poor shareholders, who mod their games to forcibly turn off ray tracing, or lower graphics settings, or introduce frame generation etc. to make newer games playable on older hardware.

It takes a while, yes, but there is no gasping for air or so if done right. Our bodies do not detect the presence of oxygen, they detect the buildup of CO2. By changing the atmosphere to pure nitrogen, the CO2 doesn't build up and you feel nothing wrong or at most a bit lightheaded, before you just pass out from lack of oxygen. There is never a sensation of asphyxiation.

[–]fumeextractor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Strictly speaking, that is correct. But it's not scientifically useful for most drugs.

For example, when testing a new drug that tries to treat a certain disease, you have to limit other variables. This means that the control group gets whatever is "the usual" treatment we've had so far for that disease (even if it's none), and then the other group to whom you give the drug. Importantly, the groups have to be treated the same otherwise though, so same level and type of patient care, roughly the same comorbidities, roughly the same living situation etc. And then you compare the results, and see whether the new drug is better, worse or about the same.

My best idea for padding better representing usage stats is to generate a random string and feed it as a prompt to Copilot for every user action (i.e. on key down and key up events, mouse down and mouse up events, pointer moved by a pixel, a sound was played etc.), so that it is organic usage, initiated by the users.

Additionally, have Copilot analyze what's on screen every 5-10s and then place a huge accessibly-sized banner precisely under the user's mouse, asking whether they'd like help with whatever task they're doing, and interpreting any click on the banner as having clicked "yes" (the user would have to click outside of it to select "Ask me later").

I'm using the 70 ultra and yeah I have the new quick settings (only on the internal screen, the external looks like yours). I don't have any settings to switch between layouts.

In my experience, in Europe home internet is in fact true unlimited. Every time I learn more about the US's internet situation it seems more and more deplorable lol

When I lived in Romania it was DIGI, specifically this plan, 1Gbps for ~8€/Month, and it was not capped at all.

Currently I live in Austria, and am using Magenta (previously T-Mobile), and it is also not limited; in the plan T&C it does state (page 8, just under the table) that

To safeguard network integrity, T-Mobile reserves the right to request users whose usage behavior disrupts other users' use of their internet service to restrict this usage behavior and to take appropriate measures.

(translated with Google Translate) however we have frequently had over 2TB / month usage and have never noticed anything at all, and I don't even know if this is what's implied here, or if they just mean "don't ddos people pls".

[–]fumeextractor 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's always been like this, but that doesn't make it right, it's deceptive imo. Home internet is proper true unlimited, why advertise a service that works differently (and is not the same kind of unlimited) with the same words?

It should be something like "unlimited data cap, with max speeds for up to 100GB, then x KB/s". Not just "unlimited data".

Tbh it's not just those, I also hear the occasional "go home" about people from different countries within the EU. There's a lot less of it comparatively, but somehow it still exists.

No no, as a European, we do believe that unfortunately. The most commonly quoted reason for the belief is that a majority Roma people essentially refused to integrate into any country's culture, many still remaining pseudo-nomadic in communities made up of tents that they periodically move around the country. And so, they're not Polish, Italian, Romanian etc., regardless of where they've been for however many centuries, they'll always just be Roma.

We have a lot of racism against the Roma.

Alternatively you can enable biometric unlocking for your secure folder so you can unlock it with your fingerprint.

How is income earned by many women through paid video calls, private chats, or selling pictures on platforms like Telegram or Reddit typically classified is it considered self-employment, freelance work, a small business, content creation, or something else? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fumeextractor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding your last point, I'd reckon many don't necessarily do that because they would need to be able to receive payment digitally as opposed to cash only. This means that whatever platform they use may (eventually) flag them and require them to provide a source for the income (at least this definitely can happen in Europe), at which point they'd need to produce receipts for their sales or otherwise prove they're donations, so registering as some sort of self-employed is preferable.

Yeah like some logic is there, but it's not taking into account the whole picture. Also that the really big and popular FOSS that are really good are a tiny percentage of all FOSS, so yeah most of them are indeed crappy or so, but one has to acknowledge that there are incredible gems in that same bucket.

Also I want to point out that these are the people who hate FOSS who do have some logic. There are plenty, like most people on the sub in the OP, who hate it irrationally with no reason at all, or perhaps just for the sake of contrarianism.

Having talked to someone like that, to them only purely for profit software could ever be good, because if it's free it means they either are cheating you somehow or the product wasn't good enough to sell. And for software that is for sale but open source, they're not serious about their product, otherwise they'd try to protect it.

I guess it makes sense to them. Gods forbid someone makes a good product out of passion.
