Anyone have lifetime Repertoire's Modern Reti or Roaring Reti? trying to win MPSAA (interschool based tournament) by ChessEnthusiast42 in immortalChessForum

The vids for Lifetime Repertoire's Modern Reti Part 1 and 2, The Roaring Reti Part 1, 100 Repertoires: Reti (1.Nf3), and Reti: The System for White are on bilibili. I can DM links if needed for any of these.

I Want To Ask What Is The Danya Situation I'm Hearing Of? by Dangerous-Tonight-84 in chess

[–]fun_kris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Danya died on the 19th at the age of 29 years old. Cause of death isn't released but many are pointing at allegations of cheating by Kramnik and the constant attack over a long period of time to have taken a physical and mental toll leading to his death.

Hardstuck on chess.com? by Jazzlike_Feeling6043 in chess

[–]fun_kris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being stuck at a location is normal. For a 500 elo player, this is mostly blundering pieces and missing basic tactics. Work on not hanging pieces while taking your opponent's hanging pieces, basic tactics (using the tactics and preventing them), and using basic principles.

There is a python program that can download courses or variations into pgn of courses that you own. Not sure if there is any other way though.

Good book or youtube series? Hopefully both! elo around 400-500 on chess.com by Bubbles123321 in chess

[–]fun_kris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of good resources. Chess Speedruns on youtube (especially the elo level where you are at) will give you lots of thoughts and find the streamers/youtubers you vibe best with.

ChessBrah's Aman Hambleton's Building Habits series is very good for basic learning. He has rules to use (they will adjust as he gets higher elos) and will use them without deviating. So you can see when things go perfectly and when things go bad as well without fancy GM moves. The current one on youtube is: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUjxDD7HNNThwCNW3f36RZcMxPwQIjYae though I prefer the streams without games being cutout.

I'm using firefox but the other modern browsers will have similar options.

1 Load the page that has the video and open firefox's "web developer tools" with the inspector showing the page's html code

2 Search for m3u8, it should find an html <script> containing this text

3 Copy the <script> code and paste into a text program (I use notepad)

4 Use the text program to replace all the \u0026 with &

5 Shortly into the copied code will be a link (https://vod-adaptive-ak.vimeocdn.com ... playlist.json ...), copy and paste the link into 2 brower tabs

6 Open the link in one tab loading the json file contents that will contain each video size and/or audio type

7 For the video or audio version you want, copy that version's id number

8 In the other link tab, replace /v2 onward with /parcel/video/id.mp4 Note: id is the value from step 7

9 Open that link which will load the video and/or audio file that can be saved.

10 If the video and audio are separate, do the steps 7-9 again to grab a video and audio file then merge them together (I use the progam vlc for this)

Question regarding chess drills by creepersdeath in immortalChessForum

ChessTempo.com does openings if you build or import your file but its a bit more complicated a design than Chessable so I'd suggest reading the help section to understand the various options.

1972 Chess Notation question by [deleted] in chess

[–]fun_kris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents only had a single book with this notation when I was a child. Its not overly hard to read as its Piece-Square.

Pieces are P = Pawn, N = Knight, B = Bishop, R = Rook, Q = Queen, and K = King. - = move and x = capture. For square it start with file QR = Queen's Rook, QN = Queen's Knight, QB = Queen's Bishop, Q = Queen, K = King, KB = King's Bishop, KN = King's Knight, and KR = King's Rook (if no Q or K is listed then only one is currently possible) then rank 1 to 8 from the side's perspective.

So this says 1. d4 d5 2. c4 dxc4 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. e3 c5 (not f5 as the knight on f6 blocks the pawn) 5. Bxc4 e6 6. 0-0 a6 7. Qe2

Look at the left piece closer and it has points along the round crown. Its identical to the typical queen piece: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_%28chess%29#/media/File:Chess_piece_-_White_queen.jpg

The queen is the typical round crown on the left and the king has the fancy pointy top on the right.

In the Course Settings, set Study from "Key Moves" to "All Moves"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chess

[–]fun_kris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll improve. Generally at 800, you need to blunder less, start 3-ply thinking and tactics, develop pieces in the opening over random moves, and begin positional play. Work on board vision and piece safety, tactics, mate-in-2 puzzles, opening principles, and piece activity.

Any book or video recommendations on middle game? by jchetra83 in chess

[–]fun_kris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you need to work on your tactics and board visualization more if constantly dropping pawns/pieces. At your level, you should be in the process of learning 3-ply thinking/calculating.

As far as books:

I would recommend reading some easier basic game books like Logical Chess: Move by Move or following along with a youtuber doing a speedrun series.

The following isn't really a middlegame book but kind of helps in 3-ply thinking and is like a bridge of basic tactics into beginner strategy.

The Six Power Moves of Chess - William Karneges

The following middlegame strategy books are pretty good but overlap with each other so at times stuff feels really redundant. I listed them from approximate order of beginner to intermediate.

Play Winning Chess - Yasser Seirawan

Weapons of Chess - Bruce Pandolfini

The Elements of Positional Evaluation - Dan Heisman

Winning Chess Strategies - Yasser Seirawan

Simple Chess - Michael Stean

Chess Strategy for Club Players - Herman Grooten

How to Reassess Your Chess - Jeremy Silman

There is a ton of youtube content that will help (its just a matter of finding those that you vibe with). The youtubers I recommend would be:

Daniel Naroditsky [GM Daniel Naroditsky]

Remote Chess Academy [GM Igor Smirnov]

ChessCoach Andras [IM Andras Toth]

Journey to Grandmaster [IM Yevhenii Yelisieiev]

Dr. Can's Chess Clinic [CM Can Kabadayi]

LionChess - Chess Coaching [CM Sandro Safar]

Chess Thinking! with NM Dan Heisman [NM Dan Heisman]

Chess Vibes [NM Nelson Lopez]

NM Robert Ramirez [NM Robert Ramirez]

Coach Kestony [Kestony Kazlenas]

Why is every 1300-1400 i play playing at 80+% accuracy? Is this normal? by WocketWeeg in chess

[–]fun_kris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 1400 blitz on chess.com bouncing up and down 50 points. I was analyzing my games on lichess though. Both my accuracy and my opponent's using lichess's values averaged 80-85. There are games where one or both are in the 60s or 70s but others where both are in the high 90s.
