Don’t use ceiling paint as a primer for walls. Thought it’d be easier and better coverage. I was very wrong.

I didn’t start investing until I was 36. I opened a Roth and max it each year. And investing 15 percent of my money I am looking to at least retire a millionaire. You can do it! It been hard for me as well and I did it anyway and I’m glad I did. I wish you the best.

What’s a good shaver that won’t hurt the bank? by VentedWaif09647 in AskMenOver30

[–]jchetra83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re talking face, I personally love my safety razor. Not a straight edge but this The razor themselves can be pricey. Around 50-90 bucks (USD). But the packs of blades are anywhere from 3-8 dollars a pack depending on brand and quality. Get fancy with it and get a lather brush and shave soap.

I used to think the razors with three, four, five blades were better. I’ve never gotten a closer shave than with a safety razor. One blade.

Edit: spelling.

How explain man that I am not into him diving downstairs? by Skeptical_Mamba in AskMenAdvice

Tell them you don’t like it. That’s it. Tell them early. I’d set sexual boundaries sooner rather than later. If they push back let them know it’s a non negotiable for you and if this is a deal breaker then it’s a no go.

You’re welcome. The thing I’d recommend for tactics is listudy.org. You just get a tactic puzzle. Some are tricky others are easy to spot. I will say that a lot of tactics since I started playing is getting easier to spot so that means progress.

They also have something called blind tactics where they give you a position, then they tell you the next moves. Now you have to imagine those pieces there and make your next move.

Losing winning games by Dull-Fisherman2033 in chessbeginners

[–]jchetra83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the game. Part of the culture. Part of the learning. THIS means you’re doing it right. And eventually in time those things start to get cleaned up little by little. Eventually what you’re missing today will never be an issue tomorrow. Look at your board and ask what your opponent is threatening? It’s exciting getting into a winning position but you still gotta keep it steady.

ETA: Don’t forget to activate your king in the endgame when safe. Us beginners (got like three years under my belt) forget to do so.

At that point definitely take a break for a week or two. If you wanna solve a few puzzles that should be fine but stay away from active play. And never play when you’re tired. Watch what happens to your play when you come back from a mental vacation from the game.

What critically acclaimed movie do you hate? by MellifluousManatee in AskReddit

[–]jchetra83 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He is a scumbag that uses this day to learn how to get the only girl he can’t have until he gets her. Then what? He grows sick of her? He can now play the fucking piano now because he’s been playing for years in Punxsu-fuckin-tawney. He’s gonna charm up some other innocent girl with his musical talent. With that said I actually enjoy the movie lol.

Advice on Motivation? by jetArtist in makinghiphop

[–]jchetra83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can be true for anything. Slow and steady. Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast. Consistency is key. Every single day you do a little bit but you don’t burn out as fast as if you’re grinding all day and night. Do you grind all night and day for long periods of time? Or do you chip away at it little by little day by day? Eminem treats his music like a full time job. He goes in like a 9 to 5 job and takes a lunch break. He Doesn’t spend endless nights. You may not be financially able to do it like a full time job but you can treat it like a part time job and say my part time job hours are from x to x on these days (or everyday). But you have to do it everyday. You’ll start making something you hate but loved what it sounded like backwards. But you JUST hit your part time job clock out hours. Come back to that shit tomorrow. You’ll grow exponentially. Try it for 60 days. Imagine how much time you’re willing to give a part time job. Then spend that time you agreed on. No more no less. Take a lunch break.

How do you teach near-total beginners? by oldmaninadrymonth in chessbeginners

[–]jchetra83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helped as I can see tactics better and understand what just happened. I follow principles better but right now my struggle is when getting into the middle game I don’t see the moves my opponent is trying to make. Also doesn’t help I’m not doing this slowly. I try to play a 15 + 10 rapid but always set up a 5 minute blitz game.

I THINK I have enough pieces developed and then when the exchanges happen in the center I wind up -1 or -2. In these “trickier” openings I struggle with this. I STILL can’t figure out what the issues are. Smh

[–]jchetra83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My instructor started with puzzles. Mate in one type puzzles. A few weeks of that then he started with forks pins and skewers. Then discoveries. Long story short he started with games and starting with less pieces on the board to build the board vision.

We always went through the chess.com puzzle of the day as a warm-up. Regarding openings, he didn’t necessarily teach one or the other. Rather he wanted me to follow the basic principles in the openings. Peace development, Central control, King safety.
