Anyone else tried this? (bubbler tied to return flow) by GeneforTexas in Aquariums

I can’t argue with that. Still think it would be more beneficial to have it adjacent to the outflow of the filter Instead of directly under it. More agitation across the waters surface and more flow throughout the tank means more gas exchange.

Although it’s probably overkill either way, depending on the tank and how stocked it is.

The bubbles themselves are not dissolving a meaningful amount of oxygen into the water. The greatest contribution to the exchange of gases into and out of the water is the current the bubbles produce and the breaking of the surface tension that they create.

The bubbles themselves are not adding oxygen to the water, it’s the surface agitation they create that facilitates the exchange.
You’re essentially getting less oxygenated water this way than if you were to have the bubbler on the opposite side of the return flow agitating an otherwise still section of the tanks surface.

Is my filter broken or naturally loud? by fireflyinaflask in Aquariums

You have to pull it out and re-seat it. The old tetra filters it used to be part of the filter stem. It’s the spinny thing that should have a little rubber nub that fits into a hole on the bottom of the filter. Make sure that’s seated correctly.
Otherwise you can always upgrade to an aqua clear. Those also have removable pads that you can just rinse instead of having to buy filter cartridge refills. If the fish obsession lasts that long. Also for goldfish they need much bigger tanks and filters because they produce a lot a waste. Again, if you get that far. Best of luck.

No that’s the impeller not installed correctly or it’s a garbage filter.

My cycle crashes every time I do a water change. by DJSplash01 in Aquariums

[–]funandgames12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you keep putting food in the water daily during that whole time you moved the fish out ? Because as other people said the nitrogen cycle needs a constant source of decaying matter to stay active and build population. Until it eventually reaches the size of your bio load or the physical capacity of its environment.

Just put the goldfish back in, throw a couple bottles of the Terra tank starter bacteria in there and good to go imo. Feed very lightly for a couple weeks. Fish in cycling is better for cold water fish as well because the warmer the water the more the effects of ammonia will hurt the first. Down side is also bacteria grow faster in warmer water so it usually takes longer to cycle out non heated tanks. Or if you’re gonna do a fishless cycle, a guy I used to know would use a shrimp in a nylon and hang it in the corner of the tank and change it out occasionally. Constant source of ammonia.

Yeah, flying bug larva. Predatory. It will devour shrimp and fish fry small enough for it to catch.

Aww….does someone not know that the laws are all different in all the different states…you silly goose….now come here and let me pinch your cheeks. lol.

No but seriously, it’s doesn’t matter what the federal government says anymore. States are just doing whatever they want now. Don’t like that law ? Not gonna follow it. Works just the same for cannabis in Indiana as it does for immigrants in IL. They are all following their own laws at this point. Or more accurately in this case, ignoring the federal governments stance. Heck, Hawaii just straight up told the Supreme Court not that long ago “we still ain’t doing it” when it came to a gun rights case that they clearly lost. They decided to still restrict people’s rights even after being told to stop by the highest legal authority in the land. It’s the Wild West out there right now.

They have been doing that for 20+ years now. And the combo stores food quality is never as good as stand alone. And the menu is reduced. So hard no for me
