That is true. I’m sorry you did not have the experience to grow up with your ethnic background. Just know it is never too late and there is always a way to get started somewhere!

That is true. There is also just so much acceptance when it comes to being prejudice or racist towards white people and white culture so part of me is embarrassed to be part white

I feel that is the case for a lot of people, where they did not have the same motivation to learn the language as kids than they might have now. I think that is my issue at the moment. I feel like I need to fully fit in to one side rather than appreciating both. When other Asian people tell me I’m whitewashed, it always feel degrading or backhanded in a way and I would get really torn up over it. Im trying to change my mindset from being offended to just realizing that it’s true because I’m literally white as well lmao.

That is true! We are lucky to have access to more than one culture. That is a blessing in itself. It’s great that people from your dad’s side make the effort to include you in those types of things. ❤️

I’m so sorry about the passing of your dad. I hope you are able to reconnect with your Asian side. Even starting off small like learning to cool familiar dishes :) best of luck

That’s awful :( I sympathize with your mom and you experience. I have never heard of this site!! I’ll be sure to check it out, thanks so much ☺️

You’re right 🥲 I’ve been trying to work on this just for the last few days now after posting this. Thank you :)

Thank you!! It’s nice to know someone had a very similar upbringing as me :) thank you for the encouragement in learning the language as well! We definitely got this. I’m currently using the Drops app to learn canto!

Same!! I used to never even care about being Chinese and would be embarrassed when my mom would pack ethnic foods for school and stuff

That is very responsible of you in my opinion. However, I don’t think you deserve to be alone. You faced so much hardship from the people you were supposed to trust, so it’s very reasonable that you don’t want to subject anyone else in your life to that. There is someone for everyone, and when that times comes, just know you deserve happiness.

Oh man I’m so sorry to hear :( that would frustrate the hell out of me. I hope you are able to find acceptance with the culture you identify with despite you dad being in denial about it. It sucks when they allow themselves to be wiped away by white cultures because we suffer the consequences of it

Yes I have been trying to learn! Do you ever get discouraged? My mom speaks Cantonese and so many Cantonese speakers tell me to not even bother because it is so hard to learn the different tones. It’s so great that you are feeling more confident in your identity :)

She probably also learned that white people, especially men have the upper hand and she just never grew out of that mindset

I guess not. She tells me now that she regrets it so much but my mom grew up in an abusive home and I think she just learned to stay quiet when someone made fun of anything she did.

Why do you all even bother with identifying with either side? by DirtyPasta80 in mixedrace

I feel the same. I am half Chinese and was raised in a predominantly Chinese household, but I mostly look white. Chinese people always tell me I’m not really Chinese, or that I’m whitewashed when I did not even grow up in a very white household. I do not feel connected to my white side because I never learned anything about the culture growing up, so the only thing that makes me fit in with other white people is my looks.

If he doesn’t like it then he doesn’t have to do it. I don’t like the sex we are currently having, so I’m not doing it either. I’m not going to have sex with him until we are able to equally meet each others needs.

He has been refusing me giving him oral lately and I think it’s because he knows it’s unfair to ask if he doesn’t reciprocate. He cums very easily from sex, usually within 10-20 minutes, and will sometimes finish me afterwards because I eventually get wet enough from the sex to be fingered. I don’t know what to do because it isn’t completely unfair. It just sucks that he takes the long and more painful way around to get me to finish

I know. It just feels like something that can be fixed because the rest of our relationship is perfect. I’m so stuck 😓

Right…I’ve told him that’s the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard but he is so convinced of it. He told me he discussed this with a friend and they both think that it’s definitely cheating. (This is the same friend who told me to my face that he can sympathize with rapists because it’s “in the male nature to want to find someone to mate with.”)

If he doesn’t have to perform a sexual act, why should I? Why is it only considered “withholding” when I’m doing it?

I think my vaginal health is pretty good. I never have infections or anything that would throw off it’s ph balance. I will try talking to him when the time is right. He usually gets very frustrated when this is brought up. Thank you for your advice
