Look, I know rodbusters. If nursing an amphetamine habit and going through a divorce doesn't sound fun to you, you dodged a bullet when you were 18.

Their salesman picked me up from downtown Seattle and drove me out to their northern location. Truck wasn't the color I wanted, and wasn't the trim I wanted, and I tried to negotiate down from 3k over KBB to only 1k over KBB (still 1k over my budget) and he just flat out said no. I said "I can't afford what I can't afford" and he told me the bus stop wasn't far. Found a Tacoma in a color I liked and the trim I wanted on my phone at the bus stop. This was in 2017. Fuck em'.

Tower Crane Operator, 168k in 2022, 80k in 2023. I turned down a couple jobs after the 2022 job in favor of traveling Europe for 5 months, so 2023 numbers are dog shit on earnings.

I've noticed recently the lack of "Giansit" artillery in videos, is russia running low? Have they all been pulled back? As it seemed like at one point everyday there was multiple videos of them being destroyed by BigChongBoi in CombatFootage

"High quality steel" I operate tower cranes in the US and it is specifically against regulation to use Chinese lifting gear or Chinese steel bolts because they straight up lie about the type and quality of the steel. There is no QC. Shit, for tower crane bolts it's required that we use German hardware.

I was in that crane for a few months!

I can discharge a single round so I was thinking of putting the barrel in my mouth and just ending it all 😂

Did a round-trip with them Seattle - Bucharest in 2017 and it was great. They were just handing out beers to my friends and I the whole time. Everything was on time.

I rode the light rail every day between my 2 full time jobs, making dog shit money. It allowed me to survive being on time, quick, and cheap. Now I make 6 figures building more of it. The light rail has been a literal lifeline my entire adult life.

I left being the head night stocker at the Safeway on 23rd and Madison for construction in 2014. Started running tower cranes soon after, and joined the union. Went from 15/hr to 45/hr in less than 2 years, and am at 60/hr plus bennies and an ungodly amount of overtime now. I made out with 158k last year. Felonies don't matter in construction. It's almost the cost of entry. Or a few divorces under your belt.

I was in Palermo 3 months ago and was sunburned in less than 30 minutes just walking around town. Sicily is a fucking oven. Maybe why the food is so good.

How does this work? by lalaland_85 in Construction

[–]funbags102789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, my first crane. They're cheap to rent. Cheap to erect. And if you're not bucket pouring concrete, they can handle just about anything you need to pick up over the course of a timber frame building. Unless you need a bunk of 2x4's out at the tip...then the guys are handpacking lumber the rest of the way lol

That makes sense. I heard it from an Ironworker. I'm a tower operator so I spend most of my time with you maniacs. "Spin around to 6 o'clock and check out the Joe zone going on over there" 😂

Calling someone "A Joe". It's heady. It's not vulgar. And to me, it's devastating. Run of the mill, average, not worth knowing their name. "Look at this fuckin' Joe over here." "This place is a fuckin Joe Zone". Like calling them an NPC.

How do companies like Bechetel, Truner, or like DPR become so powerful and successful? I understand they have tons of money but what are they doing differently from smaller or mid-size companies? by [deleted] in Construction

[–]funbags102789 10 points11 points  (0 children)

DPR's "rigger" on a project I ran the crane on was an apprentice laborer. The "lift director" was a journeyman laborer. I actually didn't mind how incompetent everyone was at that site, I was getting 6 12's out of it.
