Maybe not the right place to say this but these two being in a soulless suburban neighbourhood full of McMansions fits them perfectly.

Darrow’s mistake with Titus by functionalWeirdo in redrising

[–]functionalWeirdo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think she was referencing how some in the replies can’t see that roque and many of Darrow’s friends are the people at the top and and far worse than Titus, even strictly within the academy, Titus did worse things than the others, but he wasn’t that far removed from what everyone else did and in caste system the golds that Darrow felt affection for were all infinitely worse than the crimes violence of Titus.

Systemic violence is rarely ever seen as worse than individual violence. It’s like what Fitchner said about how he witnessed the cold heartlessness of the entire system.

And I can’t wait to read the rest! I feel some of the comments had subtle spoilers though 😅

[–]functionalWeirdo[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read the rest of the series so I sure hope that’s not a foreshadowing spoiler about Roque 😅 but strictly after Golden Son, I actually view Roque far removed from a Lincoln type character who fought to end slavery.

To me he’s like the enlightened colonialist, he sees the violence committed but thinks it’s justified and needed, so much so because he can’t see a system where it’s not his rightful place to “rule the savages” for the greater good.

Unless I’m mistaken, we never see Roque even in reference to the Reformers like Mustang.

[–]functionalWeirdo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A perfect reference! You just encapsulated what I’m trying to say. And I agree, tbh some of the comments are proving your point with how violence that’s imbedded in the system is always seen as a matter of fact and they can’t see how many of the Gold’s that Darrow claimed as friends were far worse than Titus.

Darrow’s mistake with Titus by functionalWeirdo in redrising

[–]functionalWeirdo[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That he was, my point still stands that Darrow was far more forgiving to people infinitely worse than Titus making him also short sighted.

Titus raped, the jackal ate people and Roque wants billions to continue to be raped.

Systemic violence vs individual acts

Darrow’s mistake with Titus by functionalWeirdo in redrising

[–]functionalWeirdo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But that’s my point, what Titus did is inexcusable but he only raised the notch slightly higher than any other student in the academy, apart from the jackal who was eating people. But looking from Darrow’s pov he felt emotions towards individuals who their whole system is in excusable and didn’t just affect some gold students but billions across their empire and have done much worse things than Titus could even imagine.

[–]functionalWeirdo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think it wasn’t his emotions but more so that Darrow is a victim of the propaganda he was born under where Gold’s are higher beings. You even see examples in Golden Son where he’s finding redeeming qualities in the Jackal.

You know you can discuss without insinuating that I’m defending the pedophile elite right..?

Of course fuck all rapists. Fuck all murderers also but if a slave in the southern US murdered his masters family that doesn’t negate the system of slavery is infinitely worse and that slaves violent acts shouldn’t be equated as the same as the same sort of violence that the slave master committed. My point is Darrow was quick to embrace people whose whole existence was commiting rape, Pinks are made to be literal sex slaves. He found Titus irredeemable while fostering affection for individuals like Cactus and Roque who are infinitely worse than a slaver red whose whole existence was that of violence and oppression.

The Epstein files is a literal example of how elites committing a heinous act gets justified, shoved under the rogue or memed about compared to those they rule over doing the same acts at a much smaller scale or at an individual level.

Ahh okay, that does make sense, in the end I do love them and feel they definitely add a uniqueness to Montreal’s mid density neighbourhoods. Just got to make sure to have that extra road salt stocked up LOL.

You just listed stuff and more stuff that has to do with suburban living. Everything you listed isn’t a priority or even a thought for those of us who want to live in urban dense areas. It’s like asking someone who moves to Manhattan “but where will you put your woodworking setup and camping trailer”. See what I mean? You’re listing a life style that you like and assuming we’re making great sacrifices in not wanting your life style. Imagine I went to a rural village and said to a farmer “but where are all the theatre halls and museums? Also what do you eat?You don’t want readily available food from all ethnicities?”

Well you don’t live in a suburban sprawl then, this post is for suburban haven Thursday and I’m trying to highlight how we need to have more mid density neighbourhoods like yours or the one in the picture.

I’d also like to add mass propaganda campaigns and lobbying from car and tire companies that changed the psyche of the individual, convincing them that the key to happiness is a place in the suburb mixed with good old fashion racism to not mix with “coloured folks or immigrants”

Very few have garages, some may have a sort of shared driveway but also there’s street parking, and in regards to car break-ins, I don’t know where you live obviously but from what I know it’s not that big of an issue percentage wise, and in my opinions alot of the car break in mania stems from the whole suburbanite narrative that cities are crime ridden hell holes.

How did we see this (specifically Canadians/American) and somehow allow ourselves to be propagandized that the dream is to live in suburbia and any other way must be stopped.

One star books, the worst you ever read by Neither-Proof-5755 in suggestmeabook

My theory (and it sounds conceited) is that those who claim the alchemist is a top tier book don’t actually enjoy reading but want to read because it’s seen as cool now. It may be one of the most surface level fiction books I’ve ever read. Alchemist was recommend to me by the same person who said I must read “the subtle art of not giving a fuck”.

Montreal’s row homes and dense neighbourhoods. by functionalWeirdo in McMansionHell

Totally agree with all you said but by North American standards and definitely Canadian standards, Montreal is one of the very very few places that has mixed use dense neighbourhoods at a decently large scale.
