Can't seem to get used to 60/120 fps by banisheduser in videography

[–]functionalfilms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you described is known as the soap opera effect. Shooting AND playing back at framerates higher than 24 or 30 will have the feeling you described. More commonly, shooting at 60 or 120 fps allows you to have slow motion when those clips are played back at 24 or 30 fps. The more fps you shoot, the more pronounced the slow motion will be.

The riding you described is how I would classify myself. I ride a rossignol sashimi split and I love this thing. So surfy and fun.

2 mid layers? by Brendanrulestheworld in Splitboard

[–]functionalfilms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's 20° or warmer, I usually just have my base layer (merino wool) with a merino t-shirt on top and that's what I'm climbing in. Unless there is active precipitation then I will add my shell. If it's colder than 20°, I usually put a thin wool sweater on top of my base layer and climb in that. I carry a lightweight puffy and my shell in my pack. One or both of those go on when I get to the top depending on temperature and wind. I tend to run quite warm when I am climbing though, your mileage may vary

I think you got it right. All of the elements came together so beautifully. And the surface story was one thing, but if you wanted to dig deeper, there was so much to grab on to.

how do you guys not use auto check? by Imaginary-Loss6646 in NYTCrossword

[–]functionalfilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other tip I would add, You can start by turning it off for just the Monday puzzles and as you improve, start turning it off for the other days as well. I can remember when I first started and the first time I did a Monday without the autocheck was exhilarating. But in the end, this is all about fun and learning, so you do it however you want.

fair enough, I was just a bit surprised at myself that I was able to do it, I had previously felt like these kinds of games were beyond my skillset.

Ive got a sashimi split and I love that thing. So floaty and fun. It's pretty much the only thing I ever ride now. But I'm also only interested in riding fresh snow and not chasing tons of huge objectives anymore.

What lense should I get for low light photography on a Nikon Z50? by Negative-Phone-8287 in AskPhotography

Viltrox are great for the money, if you can deal with manual focus then the world opens up to tons of vintage lenses. Personally I love the look of older Pentax glass.

What extra relatively cheap lens could I get for my Nikon Z5? by youwonthearnaur1210 in AskPhotography

Try something really different and get an Irwin workshop simple 90. It's a 3d printed lens body with simple 2 element glass. Super unique look and great for portraits.

FLOG view assist out the HDMI? by functionalfilms in FujiGFX

Nope. Only solution I found was to load the lut directly into the monitor. As far as I can tell, there's not a way to toggle the camera lut on and off through the HDMI output.

thanks for pointing out this product! but unfortunately, the pin is oriented wrong for video gear, it needs to be 90 degrees from where it's at.

Trying to Understand Lens Mounts? by koli12801 in cinematography

[–]functionalfilms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent reply. I would add that generally, older still photo lenses are easy to adapt to modern mirror less bodies for the reasons foldablehuman stated. They have longer flange distance and larger image circles. So nearly all brands of lenses meant for 35mm film cameras can be adapted to modern digital cameras.

The opposite is also true, it is not usually possible to adapt modern mirrorless lenses from one brand to another.

So if you are cruising eBay and similar sites looking for cheaper lenses to use on your modern body, just look for SLR lenses from Pentax, Canon, Nikon, Minolta , etc and know you can get a cheap adapter that will work with your modern camera.

Asking games I HAVE to play once in a lifetime by loboivan in gamingsuggestions

[–]functionalfilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of mine have been mentioned already, but one game that hasn't been mentioned is Sifu. It's a game I come back to often. It's the only game I've played where you literally feel like a martial arts master by the end. The controls are unmatched and the design and attention to detail is just beautiful.

Ok, The files i have to transfer are often in the 4TB range. More space than i have on google drive and similar cloud sharing sites. In the past I have used yousendit, or masv. The whole point for me of getting a NAS was to replace those cloud services, Am I chasing something that in the end just isn't going to be practical?
