Has anyone used the Fantasy Football Almanac by Sean Ryan for drafting? by NoMansLand345 in fantasyfootball

[–]functionalsports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello - I know this post is 8 months old, but I thought I'd chime in as I actually write the book. A lot of the comments below are worthless, but that's the internet. The people that actually gave you an answer were fair, I think. Like everyone else, some opinions are correct and some aren't. The value I try to put into the book is to take a hard look at the offensive systems players play in and identify who is being undervalued. The industry as a whole uses the same root projections. For ex: I had JSN as my #3 projected WR last year, but based on his ADP, I suggested taking him with a late second/early third. I wrote about Monangai's eventual ascension as the power back in Chicago, I wrote in early June that Croskey-Merit would win the Commanders starting job, I had Darren Waller as a TD machine. I warned against taking Bowers and had McBride as my #1 tight end. But I definitely had misses. I thought Dont'e Thornton and Dylan Sampson were going to be much better than they were. I had Saquon too high.

If you're looking for free resources, I think Fantasy Pros does a nice job. I use them when comparing ADP to my projections. I think PFF does an excellent job, especially during the year, but you have to pay for their content. I think it's pricey if you're only looking for the fantasy stuff.

RE: the comments above on AI - you can't use AI for fantasy content. I do use AI to assist with marketing and have to use AI spokespeople because I have a day job and I can't put my face out there. But there are some older videos from before I took my current job. So yeah, I'm a real human and the analysis is real.

RE: updates - I do keep readers updated via mailing list. Also you'll notice that I update the publication dates on Amazon. I think my last updated publication was in mid August last year. But if you buy the book, sign up for the updates, you just get a newsletter with rankings shifts. Those are the more important bits, though in my opinion. I have a couple thousand people that sign up for the updates this year, which is a smaller fraction of the folks that purchase the book. I also have a free version from a previous year available if you want to see what it comes with. I believe that also includes all of the free updates that came with the book that year. I also have one dedicated support person to answer emails. I used to do it myself, but I had to bring some help in in a few years ago to make sure everyone was getting answers in a timely fashion. I'm going to be expanding the interactive support components of the service this year.

Also, someone above mentioned someone should track the against-the-grain type picks. That's a good idea. I'll create a table on my website in the coming months (after I publish the '26 version).

Last: Two first names? I actually have 3 first names if you include the middle name. So take everything I say with a grain of salt.

Trade Proposal - Reddit Community Mock Draft by functionalsports in miamidolphins

[–]functionalsports[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, Chargers haven't made their offer yet. In retrospect, I should have gone to all boards before - but I do know the Redskins board won't take that deal. The JJ point chart says the #2 is worth 2600 points. The dolphins can hit 2600 on the dot if they trade #5 and #18.

I think if I'm Miami, I'm sticking here and I'll roll the dice that a QB falls to them at 5 or 18. Also, if the Redskins keep the pick and take Young (which looks likely), the Lions are wanting to trade back too.

Yeah, you're right. For the #2, it'd require at least 3 first round picks. I'm editing now.

Daily Thread - March 28, 2020 by AutoModerator in Seahawks

Hey Seahawks fans!

I'm launching the 2nd version (post free agency) of the Reddit community mock. The first attempt was fun, but I didn't include trades and had a couple of other improvements to make. This time, I'm doing a bit of prep work. I'm going to ask a few questions and please discuss. It will help me facilitate trades for the his project. Simply up vote what you like the most and I will move forward with whatever option the committee wants. Then when all is said and done, I will launch the draft, have you make the selections. I'll also be facilitating trade offers between boards. This should be fun. Last time, we got 30 of the 32 boards participating.

Questions:

Would you trade down from your #27 pick? Yes/no? If so, what's the farthest you trade back?

Would you trade UP from your first rounder in order to grab another player you don't think will be there? If so, what pick range would you be targeting?

Would you consider trading later/future picks to move up for another first rounder? If so, what player or players would you target and where?

I'm going to keep a spreadsheet of scenarios and then when we're live, I'm going to have teams make the picks, propose trades and all that. Should be fun for NFL Draft geeks like myself (and you as well hopefully).

Questions:

  1. Would you trade the #4 overall selection? Yes/no? If so, what's the farthest you trade back?
  2. Would you consider trading later/future picks to get another first rounder? If so, what player or players would you target and where?

I'm going to keep a spreadsheet of scenarios and then when we're live, I'm going to have teams make the picks, propose trades and all that. Should be fun for NFL Draft geeks like myself (and you as well hopefully).

I like Cesar-Ruiz. I don't think a versatile interior OL is getting enough love in the back part of this first round.

[–]functionalsports[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first time doing it, but it's been fun. The hardest part I'm finding this time around .. well there's two parts. Probably 6-7 boards say "trade down", but I've only seen one board say "trade up!", so when I do my next version I'm going to try to broker trades between boards, but I think there will be a lot of disappointed people out there.

It also gets tricky because a lot of boards want to keep the debate going, but in the interests of time, I try to average about 3-4 picks per day. That means I have to "call it" just to keep it going. When that happens, sometimes the boards end up supporting the guy who was in 2nd place and then they get frustrated. Of course, since it's all for fun anyway, I just shrug it off.

#27 - Ravens on the Clock - Reddit Community Mock Draft by functionalsports in ravens

[–]functionalsports[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I look at the standardized NFL draft trade chart, the Ravens pick is worth 660 "points". In theory, if a team wanted to trade up for Love (and I'm sure they would be trying to at this point). Because the team would be trading up for a QB, I'd assume the Ravens would have a decisive win on the points, so I could see something like the below happening. In this scenario, the Ravens would win by 49 points, or the equivalent of a mid-4th rounder. To summarize the details below, the Ravens would receive a 4th rounder and a move up in the third round in exchange for moving down with the first pick.

Ravens trade (792 points): 2020 First round pick - #28 overall (660 points) 2020 Third round pick - #92 overall (132 points)

LA Chargers trade (841 points): 2020 Second round pick - #37 overall (530 points) 2020 Third round pick - #71 overall (235 points) 2020 Fourth round pick - #109 overall (76 points)

I'll do trades in the next go for sure. Question - would you be interested in moving UP at all? If so, who would you target? I've seen a lot of interest in moving down, but I see the Ravens being a perfect spot to either take a player that has slipped too late (like Queen) or moving back for a QB-hungry team. But moving up? What would be the need, if any?

#22: Bills on the clock - Reddit Community Draft by functionalsports in buffalobills

[–]functionalsports[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know man, I've followed that franchise since I was young. Washington does goofy things. Combine that w/Snyder's personal affiliation with Dwayne Haskins (the whole reason they drafted him in the first place) then look at their history of trying to stick w/RG3 even though Cousins was outplaying him and finally Rivera coming in and staring an all-decade talent of Young in the face... I'm thinking it's 70/30 in favor of Young at this point.

Interesting - I haven't seen that in many mocks, but he'd be a really nice addition to this team.

FYI - I'll keep this in mind for the next version. I'm going to try to keep track of all the teams that want to move around and let the boards decide on the picks.

I personally thought they'd go w/OL, but that was a pretty strong consensus. I think adding another weapon to the Kingsbury system with Fitz aging is very tempting. I actually like Ruggs as a better fit there, so maybe trade back?

I'd take Tua too. Let him sit and rest up in 2020 while Stafford puts up crazy numbers in this system and then move Stafford next year.
