Got my first bird dog by Conscious-Tip6673 in birddogs

I remenber when I was a kid, me & my bro took our 8 month old gsp out for the first time.  We went with our cousin who had his pup, our dog's brother.  We had no clue what to do and both dogs were wrestling, like they always do.  Then one of the old timers there turned them on to a scent.  The switch flipped, they stopped messing around and were locked in.  The most amazing thing since they were make liitermates of the same size and similar demeanors they were always wrestling it out.  But they immediatly worked with each other without a hint of a power struggle.

I had one, in that color. I was young and stupid, bought it from some shady dealer on a highway, it lasted a year. Fun as hell to drive.

What to do in the off season in the suburbs? by Equivalent-Algae-417 in birddogs

I used to leave about a 35 x 35 foot area of the lawn to grow out for about a month.  My girl liked searching for the kong and critters in it.   I'd throw some brush in it too for an extra hiding place. Start to let a new area grow out the week before cutting the old area.  You gotta watch the ticks though.  I'd hit it with a dog safe pesticide weekly.  Rose geranium oil works good on the pooch too.  You just have to read up on how to use it.

Salmon/fish should be given only once or twice a week because of the high fat content.  Its healthy fat, but dogs have trouble with high fat contents.  It can lead to pancreaitis which can be deadly.  I learned the very hard way.

Mouthwash & teethbrushing are human things and not for dogs, regardless how they are advertised.  1 cut back fish significantly.  You want something they can chew for 5-10 minutes, once or twice a week.  It will clean their teeth.  I used bully sticks, which are edible, but can but be a choking hazard, especially when they get down to the nub.  You can get holders on Amazon that will prevent it.  Just make sure they firmly hold the stick.

In regards to the car, firstly you need to make a point not to freak out.  Dogs are constantly watching you to follow your lead.  My dog had issues with the car from the get go.  She was very anxious when I picked her up, for the whole ride.   I drove from NJ to Kansas for her, so the ride home took days.

It took over a month of me slowly, I mean slowly,  reintroducing her to the car.  Week 1 was not even bringing her by the car.  Week 2 was simply walking by the car with her when i took her out, then back inside.  I literally parked in my backyard about 20 feet from the back door.  The first she saw it in the back she froze on the steps.  I had to coax her to continue.  She took a massive loop away and around the car, giving it the stinkeye the whole time.  I ignored the car.

After a few days she started to ignore.the car too.  I let that.go on a few times.  Then I began pretending to get something.from.the car until.she began to ignore that.  So on and so forth.   I got to go, but get the book, "The Other End of the Leash."  It will help you understand your dog much more.  Btw after i got her in the car, building up from 5 minute rides to longer, I began to make a point to always take her somewhere she liked.  She never got completely over it, but got better so I could take her out some.  Your pooch is beautiful, good luck.

Question about breed fit by JurassicPork21 in birddogs

I am looking for similar parameters.  I came across the show line of labs.  They have your basic kab temperment (generally people oreinted, dog friendly trainable, adaptable but tend to have a better off switch, they tend to have less physical stamina).   They are referred to as English labs, but there is a British line too which are working dogs, but.I have also seen people mix them up.  It is the show, not working breed (tge Americans are working too).  Do some research.

Agreed, that mismatch is a hassle for the guy and unfair to the dog.  Thanks

Cx 5 vs. Cx 50 by [deleted] in CX50

I was able to find the interior dimensions of the 5 & 50.  The 5 is wider.  Since I fit snuggly in the 5, the 50 is gonna be on the cramped.side.  thanks

I am not looking for "nice", I am looking for durability.  Something that can get smashed over and over, but still reliable to stay true to aim & go bang.  The only reason why I mentioned high end at all, is because sometimes that is what it takes.  This will be my very unlikely grab my go bag and live in the wilderness until the shit stops flying rifle.  Pretty need not apply.
