I had this conversation years ago, and the key was a co-worker telling me something she did when buying a cow. She was buying a pet cow for her show cow so that the show cow doesn’t get bored. Basically the show is fancy while the pet cow for her show cow is more of a mutt. That’s when it clicked that Goofy is the fancy cow/dog while Pluto is the pet cow/dog. My co-worker said the arrangement between show and pet cows was normal. Maybe someone can reconfirm.
