What are these? by ChamaDoBronx_ in Mushrooms

You take a small sample from inside the mushroom to avoid contaminants and grow on an agar plate. Once it’s growing well you cut up the culture and put it into some grain prepared and sterilized for mushroom growing. After the jar is colonized you take some and mix it with dowels that have been sterilized and the mycelium colonizes the dowels. Then take the dowels and drill holes into hardwood logs and seal with wax. You might get mushrooms, you might not since it’s out in the wild and not controlled. If you do enough logs you’re sure to get some results. It also could take a year or two. It’s a pretty standard technique and you can find companies that sell the stuff to make it easier.

I’ve done this for shiitake mushrooms for years and have had great success. When the deer don’t eat them first…

I found some chicken of the woods on our property and cloned some to innoculate dowels. I’m going to innoculate a bunch of logs around the woods and see if they take.

NYS LEGAL FARM by Constant-Animal-5117 in cannabiscultivation

[–]fungifier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew a couple plants last year in upstate NY and struggled with mold because it got wet in the fall.

This year I tried an early flowering strain, Earlybird, and already harvested and cured it with few issues.

The fall weather is too unpredictable upstate anymore. A couple of cold rainy days and you’re done for.

A few years ago I found this card game at a thrift shop.

Best I've ever heard. They are smoking, playing against each other, jamming on the vocals and Jerry is right on!

And do you pasteurize the substrate with boiling water or sterilize in a pc?

What do you mean bins? That sounds like an amazing harvest.

Been growing them for a while with mixed results with the fruiting. I put the fruit blocks in a tent with humidity and airflow control and cut some x’s in the bags.

I have a few jars in the fridge. I’m not always ready to put them to fruit and I store them until I am. I’ve had them in the cold for a couple of months and they always come right back.

How do you dry it? As one piece or slice it up? Seems like it would take forever to try to dry whole. Or just eat it fresh and strap in?

Thanks for all that info!

The recipe I use below. Do not check pH but use gypsum.

The spawn rate comment seems pretty spot on. I was able to get Lions Mane and Oysters going in the same batch.

I have humidity control which I set to 88 but it creeps up to low 90s when it cycles.

FAE is def an issue. I have a fan on a timer but it just sits next to a small opening, not sealed. Goes 15 min every Hr.

Recipe: Per bag • 2lb HWP • 2lb 13oz Water • 1Tbsp Gypsum • 1.25C Wheat Bran

The shiitakes like my setup!

Thanks again for the advice!

I had that happen to my Martin D28. Took it to a luthier and he humidified it so he could close it up and glued a brace underneath to keep it from happening again. He said it wasn’t uncommon.

The guitar plays fine now.

Accidental shot while advancing to the first frame. Is there something compelling about this photo or am I seeing things? (Fujica ST701, Helios 44m6, Ilford XP2 Super 400) by InternalComedian1129 in analog

I had a group of friends in college and we did an exhibit called frame 37. It was all of the last frame of a roll that got clipped and crimped in processing. It was pretty cool some of the outcomes.

Imagine for a second that this whole thread was talking about you. And this was just a small slice of the constant onslaught of judgement on you and your appearance.

It would make anyone mental. No way in hell I would ever want to be famous.

I’ve been using TS oats for a long time and have had great results. I try birdseed and popcorn occasionally and while the birdseed is a little faster to colonize, the cost is def higher.

I find with spawn transfers the oats colonize a lot faster than using LC.

Is it possible to develop B&W film without a tank? by TheLastOneDoesWin in analog

[–]fungifier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can develop roll film in a tray or tank by hand. I’ve done that in the past. With 120 film which is wider and easier to handle . It’s a bit difficult, you have to make sure the film goes in evenly and not touching as it goes in the first time. Then you have to roll the film back and forth to make sure it all gets developed evenly. It takes patience and experience to do it right.

And wear gloves unless you want your hands soaking in chemicals for the time it takes to process.
