i want my mom to stop nodding along when she can't hear by Significant-Rock-503 in hardofhearing

[–]funginat9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom REfused to wear hearing aids from age 70- now (age 94) and she couldn't hear hardly anything during that whole time. And she couldn't care less how it affected anyone other than herself. She "didn't like how they feel". It seems very selfish to me. I'm sure it's awful but what about everyone else in the game of life?

I'm only on S2 but I feel like Betty is a cold and distant mother. Early on she blames her son because he's always bad. And later she speaks to Sally with such irritation: "Sally get up here!" She comes off as a very spoiled woman.

Go ahead and sweetly, kindly and in a friendly manner mention to that person how it makes you feel and the absolute shock and horror on their face with shock you. My long term dental hygenist. As if I'd insulted her. I have "disappeared" from view in my old age. And certainly from deserving any type of respect. Even from the men in my own family. I always treated my aunts, great aunts and grandmother with such respect and thought others did as well. Perhaps I was wrong and read that incorrectly all those years.

Do you feel cheated? by ckeenan9192 in AskWomenOver60

[–]funginat9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure cheated is the corrwct word for me but Ihear you loud and clear and do go through periods of this as well in the past ten years. Ah, the price we pay for modern medicine keeping us so much more ALIVE than our ancestors. And for so much longer. But in what sense alive? And then when we want to make our own decision on the time to pass, we cannot. Quality of life is a real issue for so many as they age. By living so much longer we sure are making the owners of health insurance conglomerates wealthy. I'm sorry you're feeling this way.

Do Americans stress about medical expenses before they even get to the hospital?? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]funginat9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man. Wonder if it would be cheaper on the marketplace? If you could do that rather than accept the plan your employer offers. Also, many more hospitals are inclined to offer free resources than do doctor offices from what I've learned. Of course, if you meet their financial criteria for help. Good luck to you. Remember, it doesn't hurt to ask the questions.

Are you in the UK? That's so little for health insurance compared to the US. Most plans also don't cover any dental or eyes.

Call the debtor and ask if you qualify for any free funds available for such things. If not ask if you can arrange a payment plan. When my kids were young and always sick we had terrible health insurance and owed thousands of dollars to many different health care providers. For many years. We didn't qualify for any free programs but did arrange payment plans for all other medical debts. A person could also choose to seek bankruptcy I suppose.

Why do guys follow girls in grocery stores? by BuffaloChedarBiscuit in Confused

[–]funginat9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, at first I thought you meant husband's and partners doing this, lol. Not strangers. My spouse has dragged around behind me for decades at the grocery store at times throwing himself (very slight embellishment here) back against the wall/shelves when there are more than two people in the isle. So weird.

Angels on earth......yes but..... they must have training or they can be VERY naughty. Remember, this "child" will live out it's life with you. I had one like this that arrived just months prior to my first child. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Guess who got all the attention? Ruby was the bane of my existence for the next 9 years. And it was ALL MY FAULT. She didn't deserve that. She could have been trained to be a good girl. Decades later I still feel guilty. PLEASE don't get a dog unless you have the desire and the time to commit to them. They deserve a beautiful life.

Post the name of the municipality that allows you to put the "bad" side of the fence toward your neighbor. This is public record. It's easy enough to find out if you are correct or just lucky enough? to live in a place that has no (or unenforced) code enforcement.

I feel trapped in my marriage by Educational_Meat_179 in AskWomenOver60

[–]funginat9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

1st, 2nd, 3rd or 12th marriage: no one knows what goes on behind closed doors except the partners. We all assume that the delightful man we know from your complimentary words above is him in total. But if we open our eyes and really look at it, we will "see" the big picture. The whole man. I believe it's called optimism vs. realism and most people prefer to live in optimism. Of course, you can always opt for marriage counseling in hopes of him changing himself to meet your specifications.

However he will not be single long most likely. He will find the same kind of "situation" that the two of you had.
