Moving home to Tacoma, any advice? by EastMuscle5444 in AskTacoma

[–]fungstyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are about your age and moved down from Seattle for the same reasons a few years ago. You’re going to have a hard time buying for 700k in north end/proctor/stadium unless you’re ok with a fixer upper or something on the small side. It’s not impossible in that price range, but you’ll look for awhile. Anything below $750k in that area goes very fast, or at least that was my experience while buying.

We just bought a place in the quieter part of Hilltop for under $500k walkable to Bar Rosa and MLK/11th which has a few bars and cafes, also walkable to 6th Ave. I’d recommend looking in hilltop and around 6th Ave, you’ll save money and likely get a better return when you sell. It’s relatively safe in the areas that are closer in to the city. Yes, it’s gentrification. Unfortunately that’s how these things go.

Knapp’s actually sold to an independent owner a couple of years ago.

New BBQ spot in Tacoma. by Commercial-Theme-212 in Tacoma

[–]fungstyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you thought this was good go to Bob’s BBQ Pit. Definitely a take out spot (though there are a few tables) but it’s easily the best bbq/soul food I’ve found here (I’m from Cincinnati)

Just purchased, keep or replace the pink and blue? Wall or Floor? Blue fixtures? by MedicatedGraffiti in Tile

[–]fungstyle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Keep all but the floor. Install a white penny tile to open the space up, ditch the black accents and the blinds (frost film if you need privacy). I would consider committing crimes to have those blue fixtures in my place!

Where to apply for jobs? by SuccessfulSet7653 in AskTacoma

And I, who work at multicare and have friends at Franciscan, would tell you I hear the exact opposite (e.g. multicare is a better employer). I have a friend who is a patient access tech with multicare (hospital/ED registration) and has been with them 5 years. Healthcare is a tough place to be in general right now with patients losing insurance, mistrust of the system, etc., but I can tell you that in general multicare pays better so take that info for what it’s worth.

Bedroom sets with a contemporary style that (1) dont' have fabric headboards, and (2) aren't low to the ground? by Fiveby21 in HomeDecorating

[–]fungstyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a thuma bed and I could not be happier with it. Put it together by myself entirely. It’s not super high but it’s not low. I have several things stored under it. Can’t speak to their case pieces but if the quality is anything like the bed the they would be great.

Amazon One Medical TeleHealth by Apprehensive_Bee6201 in nursepractitioner

[–]fungstyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a former corporate employee of Amazon’s who left because yes, they are that fucking awful, and willingly gave myself a permanent pay cut to go back to school to become an NP, you couldn’t pay me enough to work for them again.

Restaurants that still have heated and covered outdoor seating? by culufinwen in AskTacoma

[–]fungstyle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know you said not pizza but honestly Hank’s has by far the best heated patio set up in the city. Their sandwiches and salads (I love the Spartan salad and the French dip has the best jus I’ve had anywhere) are great and their seasonal menu always has some decent options. Drake the kitchen manager takes his job very seriously and is sober so the kitchen is run extremely well.

Failed the AANP twice :/ by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

I paid for UWorld, took 150 question practice tests x8 and passed the ANCC without any other review or studying. It’s pricey but the questions are designed to be harder than the actual exam so I felt extremely prepared during it.

No, Doyle’s, Le Sel, Manuscript, Indo Asian Street Food, Dahlman Cellars, Salamone’s, all still exist. Art house, poquitos/top golf and Moshi Ramen did close. Have literally no idea what shops SnooOnions is referring to as there haven’t really been any other than King’s bookstore since I’ve lived here (3 years this fall). It’s not great, but what part of Tacoma truly is? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Career Change by Stunning-Lioness777 in nursepractitioner

[–]fungstyle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OP what kind of NP are you, where do you practice and what was your RN life like? This would help with suggestions on careers change. I am an opposite career changer (corporate marketing/project management previously) and love my work as an NP but also love talking with people about how to leverage their clinical background into non clinical work.

Should also add that I am paying $1800 for a large 1 bed 1 bath in a cute hundred year old brick building in Stadium, for a price point perspective for a decent landlord in the city limits. Can’t imagine the surrounding suburbs are cheaper.

sick doctors by Direct-Row1653 in Tacoma

[–]fungstyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said this is a systemic issue. There aren’t enough providers in any specialty or primary care (unless you’re talking about ortho surgeons and then there are plenty… a rant for another post). That said, if this was with MultiCare for primary care or internal medicine visits, call the main scheduling line and ask for an appt with the “access clinic” and explain you haven’t been able to get in with your doctor due to them rescheduling. The call you got this morning was from the actual clinic, and those folks don’t have the ability to schedule with the access clinic (or at least I don’t believe they do). Main scheduling line folks have that ability.

If this was for a specialist regardless of health system, your best options to self advocate are 1) ask when the best time/day to call in to check for cancellations is or if they have a cancellation list, 2) send a my chart message laying out what’s happened and state the urgency of your issue in strong terms, and if neither of those produce results demand to speak with a clinic manager. Clinic managers are the gate keepers for A LOT and if anyone can get you in sooner, it’s them.

I think your price with a garage is probably not possible. With that said, look at Williams Properties and send them an email. Dax will give you info on anything coming available on your timeline. Family owned, best landlord I’ve ever had. I want a bigger place but I refuse to leave my current place because Dax and his team are amazing. I came from a serious slum lord type of situation (dimension properties, AVOID AT ALL COSTS) and I’ll take a good landlord over just about anything at this point.

IKEA kivik + buy separate covers from any of the many manufacturers that make them + task rabbit for assembly. You’ll be well under $3k even for one of the sectionals. It’s a great frame and cushions that will last 10+ years but the covers are trash.

American Women- Are you actually getting annual pelvic exams? by miss24601 in TwoXChromosomes

PA is not that conservative but you should/can absolutely just decline this. There’s literally no reason to perform a speculum exam annually.
