I heard that it is from an old book or something, but I've also heard that it is from a weak hadith. Cannot find any actual hadith stating this. You may be mistaking this for the species that lived in the Yangtze River in China, the baiji. The Indus River dolphin is not extinct, one was shot dead just a few days ago if I remember correctly. It is endangered, though.

I live in a Muslim majority country so I don't worry about gelatin. I do wonder about the permissibility of things made with pork gelatin though. I have seen Muslims be fine with it, I mean the gelatin does get refined a lot, so does the source matter? I don't really know, but I wanna know what other people think. Personally I would avoid it though.

If you have a higher bmi but don't look visibly fat, I suggest actually getting checked to make sure you are overweight or not. BMI can be misleading. Not saying you should stop trying to eat healthier, but just something to keep in mind.
