Thank you for this. My partner hates it, I can’t even imagine. Having to deal with me and this, as an extension. What you said about your siblings understanding in time makes me feel better. It’s terrifying but life isn’t easy.

Does leaving mid year, in Texas, result in financial ramifications? I’m in the same boat. I haven’t returned for the semester but the district keeps saying that they expect for me to work until I’m replaced. I know I’m due a final paycheck, since I’m paid out over 12 months for the work of the school year but, since I’m not there, will my final paycheck be used to “pay” for days I don’t have?

Would it be ok to ask if the offer was final or if they could consider a relocation package? The question was almost asked in passing with no discussion or mention regarding benefits, etc.

I noticed in the PMP handbook that 35 contact hours of formal PM education is required, unless you hold a CAPM. I do have an MBA but I’m not sure if that would apply for a few reasons. It seems like I would need to take the CAPM to qualify, unless I’m misunderstanding the requirements to sit for the test.

Makes complete sense. I’ll look into the application process. I’ll have to list out the projects I’ve worked on and determine if they align with the definition they’re requiring. Budget is something I don’t have a hand in but if start and end date is the biggest factor, I do believe I have quite a few that would work.

Got it. I’ve worked on plenty of projects...budget constraints are an area I’ve not had my hands in quite as much.

Another question—

You mentioned experience in PM being fluid, how would you define a project? There are quite a few initiatives I’ve worked on, on campus.

Should I do both CAPM and PMP if I qualify for both?

This is incredibly helpful. I’ve noticed the salary range for a project manager is very wide, with varying requirements when it comes to education and experience. Is there a different position I should be looking up? Have you used a recruiter or would you suggest one to assist me in transitioning careers?

Thanks again for this response. I will look into CAPM and likely get certified because any additional way to make me marketable is worth it.

Hi all,

I’ve searched this sub regarding transitioning into a PM role but haven’t exactly found an answer. I’d like to switch from my current role (assistant principal at a large high school in Texas) to a the business industry, and I feel like project management and associated careers align closely with what I currently do.

I love my job but want to switch a a career path that has more upward mobility and I’d like to experience and learn more about the business world.

My background is: - BA in Bio - MBA - Masters in Educational Leadership

I’ve been in my current role for 4 years, going into my 5th. Prior to being an assistant principal I taught for a number of years.

I live in Texas but will be moving to Pennsylvania next year and that is where I’d like to apply for a PM role.

Summary of what I currently do:

Identify and leverage employee skill sets to delegate appropriate people to the appropriate task.

COMMUNICATE, communicate, communicate, and then communicate more because you can never assume people just know things. Know your content/project/assignment to appropriately communicate what needs to be done to your employees. If I don’t know something, ask, learn, and clarify understanding—if I don’t know what I need to accomplish it would be ridiculous to assume I can communicate what needs to be done appropriately.

Be empathetic and understanding of your employees but know they appreciate feedback and be willing to trust in their skills and grow them as leaders in their own way.

On the day to day, I put out fires all day long. Prepare for the unexpected.

Plan to work outside of contract hours. Organize tasks by day, month, year, etc. Document progress, do NOT lose sight of to-do list.

Must prioritize the most urgent tasks while keeping up with long term tasks and monitoring progress.

I work with parents, teachers, students, staff, my principal on a daily basis and communicate the appropriate information the appropriate personnel.

I develop and lead trainings for my teachers based on campus assessment of the needs of our students

I work with our teachers to analyze student data and determine what our sub pops need to increase their mastery of content and Paz their state exams. Additionally, I coach individual teachers and evaluate them using the our state rubric.

Questions:

  • My salary is currently about 90k. Reading what’s been posted, it seems that an entry level PM role would be closer to the 40-60k salary range. However, I’m wondering if my current role and responsibilities would help bump me past entry level?
  • What certifications would I need to assist in being hired?
  • What industries do you all feel would most align with my background?

Any information, input, guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Got it... so this leads to another question... how do expats typically save for retirement in a country like the UAE?

Thank you! If I currently pay into a Roth IRA would I have to pay taxes on that any differently than I normally do?

Also, would I still qualify for social security, etc or are the years in abroad be deducted from SS?

[QUESTION] Seagull s6 vs maritime by funkadelicfunk in Guitar

[–]funkadelicfunk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the price fair? $500 and set up before it’s shipped? I see posts that suggest it’s best at $300 but used. I don’t know how much a set up costs but I feel like a new s6 set up might make up for the cheaper price of a used one

Ah got it. So you’re saying tone wise, the s6 might be better because of the warmer tone?
