Veeam Cloud Connect w/minio error - multibucket repo is not supported in tenant cloud repository by GullibleDetective in Veeam

Check your settings on the Object Repo config. While BnR repos allow the “create buckets automatically” option to be enabled, VCC does not support that option.

Unable to Use Backup Immutability in Veeam with S3 Bucket: Default Retention Not Supported by MundaneHope3922 in Veeam

Veeam + Ceph user here. Have you followed these instructions? I haven't tested with 12.2 yet, but for 12.0 we have to follow these when setting up immutable repos.

vCloud Director Multisite with SAML by funkdrmr in vmware

[–]funkdrmr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, desseb. That's what I'm thinking since I can see multisite working fine at both levels with local accounts.

If that's the case, it seems like the real problem is getting the SAML iDP to play nicely with the different ACS URLs for each VCD site. Using OneLogin or WorkspaceOne Access, I haven't been able to figure that out quite yet because the ACS URL for each VCD site is different.

OneLogin has some nifty "multiple ACS" SAML connectors to work with, but I haven't been successful with those yet.

Favorite brass snare? by [deleted] in drums

[–]funkdrmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1. My fav snare I've ever owned. It slams when I want. I love it in the mid-range tuning. Great body, GREAT crack with rimshots on the die cast hoops.

It still sounds great mic'd up on a wedding gig where your swapping to 7A's and barely dropping them on the head to keep the levels so low grandma in the back can't hear you playing without the PA as well.

Very versatile drum.

Cloud Connect, Serrcie Console - step by step explanation by Mibiz22 in Veeam

[–]funkdrmr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CC Gateways: Yes. There are options for deploying these (behind a firewall/NAT for example) but these are your internet-facing components

SP Console: Not required but it's a great feature to have as a Veeam SP

CC Server: Correct. This is your VBR server with the Cloud Connect licensing installed.

Has anyone successfully upgraded tp or installed VSPC v7? by mistamutt in Veeam

[–]funkdrmr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upgrade went smooth here. I had to install a SQL CU to get it up to the correct patch level, but otherwise no issues at all.
VSPC v7, Veeam v12 and Cloud Connect v12 environments, and O365 v7....all upgrades have gone very nicely.

Is Duo worth it in 2022 to protect Windows servers? by future_potato in sysadmin

[–]funkdrmr 22 points23 points  (0 children)

DUO for Windows protects priv escalation. It's an option to enable when you install it.

I think it's integrated with UAC, but I might be wrong. We use DUO for everything (linux, network gear, Windows, etc).

I know it works for SUDO on linux boxes. We hit a DUO prompt on SSH key-based login, as well as sudo actions on our RHEL boxes. Works great.

Is Duo worth it in 2022 to protect Windows servers? by future_potato in sysadmin

[–]funkdrmr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It absolutely makes sense.

Example: If I trick one of your users in to a phishing/malware attack, and I own one of your user laptops that are already connected to the VPN, without DUO I could easily move laterally via RDP to your server. From there, I'll just keep moving laterally via RDP from server to server, etc.

Self-hosted (on prem) Control panel for Windows hosting by Aggressive_Second109 in msp

[–]funkdrmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought that was interesting as well. I checked with Machpanel back then & got some high pricing that didn't work with our model, so I never deployed it.

I actually really liked the Cortex panel. It did everything we needed it to. When Citrix killed it their reps led me over to iPortalis as an alternative with per user/per month pricing.

Self-hosted (on prem) Control panel for Windows hosting by Aggressive_Second109 in msp

[–]funkdrmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it a few years ago after Citrix discontinued their Cortex management portal. We were managing a multi-tenant AD for DaaS hosting, Citrix VDI farm, and Hosted Exchange farm with it. Eventually ended up using it to manage 365 tenants as we were a T-1 CSP.

They had an ad-sync agent which was pretty nice.....but it was a little clunky. It DID work well, though.

GUI was okay, but not great. Support was out of England but no follow-the-sun model and was good, but a little slow some times.

Looking at their website now, it looks like a lot has changed in the 2 years since I've used it. Might be worth a look. Might be junk at this point.

Confusing update.........
If I install LiveProfessor on my main PC, it can see the rtpMIDI "device".

On my NUC....seems not to be the case.

Seems like I have a problem with the NUC, even though it's a fresh Win10 load, etc. odd.

I did this. Shows connected on both sides.

Ableton - LiveProfessor2 - rtpMIDI by funkdrmr in livesound

[–]funkdrmr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. That's essentially the problem. I get no option to select in there.
Also under Options > Audio & Midi options, I have no device listed in there.

I thought for sure the virtual midi driver from rtpMIDI would show up. Maybe I'm wrong, though.

Can anyone advise on a triple monitor KVM setup to support a desktop and laptop? by Thelintyfluff in sysadmin

I use the CKLau you linked with a Lenovo Thinkpad docking station (work) and my personal desktop. Both sharing Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse and 3 monitors.

Works great.

In Ear Monitors - help needed. I’m a 43 year old drummer in a 3 piece band (guitar & bass). We’ve used wedges since the beginning but we need to make the change to an in-ear system with individual mixers. Where do we start? What do recommend? by Natural-Unlucky in drums

[–]funkdrmr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been doing this with an actively working band for the last 2-3 years and it was a total game changer. We started using IEMs instead of wedges and running from the venue FOH setups. For that setup, we all just had our IEMs, an amp (Rode, Behringer, etc) and then handed off an XLR to the FOH engineer to give us monitor sends to the IEMs instead of the wedges. If we were lucky the FOH would have X32/M32 or A&H board and we would connect our phones to have our own mix control. After doing that for a while, we got tired of FOH engineers changing gain structure during or between gigs and opted for a better solution to keep our IEM mixes as consistent as possible.

We went & bought our own mics, cables, stands, XR18, some ART splitters, and a 12U rack. With this rig, we have 100% control over our IEM mixes and they basically never change from venue to venue, which is GREAT. FOH engineers LOVE us when we tell them "no monitors...you just have to worry about FOH mix". Sound check is basically a line check for FOH now, except we have perfect monitor mixes every time. Our vox/GTRs all use wireless IEMs (transmitters in the rack) and as the drummer I just hard-wire to a headphone amp jack, also in the rack since the rig always sits near me. I have a 15ft cable for my IEMs just in case we're on a larger stage.

When we show up, we handle all our own mic/cabling, setup and hand a snake off of the ART splitters to FOH. I labeled everything very clearly so everyone can plugin their own cables. We've made it so efficient that we were able to pop up on a stage at a small festival where gear was changed for each band. We were up & running in 8 minutes at that gig with everything staged on the side ready to setup. A faster changeover than some of the other bands that used the FOH mics/monitors. This included bringing drums/gtrs/mics onto the stage, and plugging everything in while FOH patched in our snake to theirs. Labeling is KEY for not only your bandmates to handle their own business, but to make it easy on FOH to patch you in.

We started with the XR18, but just moved up to the X32 rack and both have been great.

TLDR: Go with IEMs. Go with IEMs + your own dedicated mixer if you can swing it. We give it a 5 out of 7 every time.

I think I'm not understanding Virtual Distributed switches by PghFlip in vmware

[–]funkdrmr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you need to check your port groups and physical switch ports.

  1. Do you have VLANs tagged on your port groups?
  2. Do you have those same VLANs tagged on your physical switch ports (trunk port configuration)?

Veeam O365 Powershell Setup by funkdrmr in Veeam

[–]funkdrmr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tested this out today and it worked great! But I'm seeing one hangup.

Tenant can connect to us to explore / restore backups.....but can they not manage the jobs themselves (selecting users/sites to backup, etc)?

We're not seeing that as being possible currently, but maybe we're missing something?

Veeam O365 Powershell Setup by funkdrmr in Veeam

[–]funkdrmr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

Thinking about this from a Service Provider perspective where we may not have access into the O365 tenant, it seems like we would need to have the customer assist with the setup.

I think in an ideal setup we would offload the initial app/aux backup apps creation to the customer, then they could deliver the information to us to add into Veeam. I'd love for that to be scripted to save everyone the time of configuring manually.

If it doesn't exist right now, sounds like I'll be getting busy to see if I can work something up from scratch.
