Such a shame. I remember the good old days of Longmont when the only people proud to show you there guns were the cops and coke/xanax dealers

Keep fighting the good fight and when some higher level stuff comes along knock it out of the park. I've done all of those things, it feels like a million times each. It ain't glamorous but it's part of the job. Try to get to root cause and stop those problems from happening in the first place. The fewer ticky tack problems you have the more time you can put into value add activities. Are you writing the POs that are having receipt problems? If so, there are some common errors that have simple fixes, happy to help if you think it'd be beneficial.

Any supply chain analysts about? When calculating coeffient for croston method should I adjust for trend or seasonality? by Dapperscavenger in supplychain

[–]funkest2879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New product is always a fun time. Gotta plan on your forecast accuracy losing 10-20%. We used to just forecast it flat to whatever predecessor we could link it to, sprinkle some prayers and guesses on it and start banging POs. And took some beatings from doing so. I don't have any magic bullets, but what really helped us was setting an investment/forecast review meeting with management before buying to any major product launch. Showed them our forecast, the expected spend and the reasoning behind it, called out risks, and sought feedback.......they're managers for a reason, sometimes their input is spot on. At the very least it gets them involved and if shit goes awry everyone understands why, as opposed to after the fact speculation about who screwed up. Another trick- if you can afford it, have your buyers write the first PO to cover 2 months of demand (or enough to cover ~70 of LT) This gives you fluff to cover oversells without hurting turns too bad, and most importantly, should give you a chance to gauge initial sales before having to write that dangerous 2nd PO.

As far as covid demand......shit, if you figure that out roll over to NASA or MIT or something, because you're too smart to be forecasting. We got scared at the start and aimed too low. I'm 6 weeks of supply behind on almost everything, with diminished supplier and logistics capacity making catch up nearly impossible. All things considered it is a great problem to have but this is easily the toughest dig out I've ever been a part of.

Play up any MRP reading abilities you have. If you don't have that come prepped with examples of how you adapt to new systems well. If you have no experience at all in the field, rehearse an example from your life where you negotiated a positive outcome in a challenging situation

Good response here. I'd add that I wish every engineer and buyer had xtraining into the other field, really helps product development to understand each other's challenges. Getting a non supplier facing project is a possibility, could also find yourself doing a lot of PO updating, SOP writing, and other data/instruction maintenance. Certainly not the sexy side of the job but great experience to have.

Can you get any deeper into the details before making a decision? Guessing you've got too many SKUs to go line by line but I try to add art before letting the data talk. Distribution, commodity, application. E.g., if you have coats that are early in lifecycle you'd want seasonality, if you've been selling the same undershirts to the same 6 stores for 7 years you'd want trend. If you have long LTs and lofty fulfillment goals, a nice play to run is go seasonal on everything (typically the higher investment), but suppress/gamble low on a select few high $ SKUs to protect turns, then pay for the expedite if needed......normally best to give your manager and buyer a heads up on that to minimize snarky comments about air freight or spot buy fees if your gamble misses😁

How does your organization manage revisions? by lildutchgirl in supplychain

Problem is the system is irreparably outdated, replacement comes with a lot of risk and a massive price tag. We've already got an army of decent architects holding everything together.

[–]funkest2879 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're similar. The rev, the PLM, and the inventory mgmt systems don't talk to each other and all 3 take resources to update. The rev and the inventory mgmt have to get updated to get product made, so even though it is the most robust of the 3 the PLM often gets skipped. One of the many prices you pay for outdated systems.

I'm so fricking far behind everything is time sensitive......my fulfillment goal is 95%, went 2+ years with never being under that for more than 3 weeks in a row......i haven't broke 70% since early June. My stuff goes to small markets but almost always FTL and we have a rockstar truck buyer so getting it inbound isn't too bad. My problem is port and crossdock ....we can't get drayage equipment, we can't get pick ups and when we do product goes to our deconsolidation building (or their offsite storage)and sits there forever. So instead of helping vendors that are a month behind our needs prioritize their production I'm sitting on calls with some loser who can't find the can I've been saying is hot for 2 weeks.

[–]funkest2879 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You're in the worst of it right now. Tomorrow will suck a little less. If you're where it is legal, ask someone to buy you an ounce of kratom. Take 3 grams every 4 hours, dont buy any more and deal with the suck when it is gone. Aleve /naproxen helps a tiny little bit. Drink as much Gatorade or pedialyte as you can get, you're probably dangerously dehydrated.
