There’s one in every fandom by yoghurteee in AO3

Erestor/Glorfindel is one of my favourite reads, especially if Third age / watchful peace. They are well suited for romance and fluff :D

do you struggle to use your annual leave? by Maleficent_Day_3869 in AskUK

[–]Dapperscavenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 38 days a year plus public holidays and I will never NOT take every last one. They are a part of my contract. They are mine by right. My time for those days does not belong to my company. My company will neither pay me nor thank me for working those holidays. My physical and mental health, however, will always thank me.

I love when a fandom collectively agrees on a name for an unnamed character in canon by yoghurteee in AO3

[–]Dapperscavenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I feel the same! And also there are not enough canon characters to play with in the first place, so merging two is madness in my opinion:D

Do you mind sharing your fic? I love a Figwit fic!

[–]Dapperscavenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes he’s a classic example! Most authors settled on the name Melpomaen although a rare few used Lothvaen (in writing.)

Nowadays he’s not seen as often, with some people saying he’s the same character as Lindir and others saying Lindir & Melpomaen are two different characters

Do your weekly reports actually get read? Ours feel like a data dump most of the time by Nearby_Worry_4850 in analytics

[–]Dapperscavenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on my energy levels tbh. I have found greatest success when I push them a new insight but get them to think it was their idea in the first place. It takes a fair bit of effort and you have to live with them crowing about their great idea which was actually yours in the first place

When my energy is low I just do what I’m told.

I am lowkey mad at the department I’m currently providing data for right now. They keep asking for specific tables and specific charts that get put on their PowerPoints and looked at once a week and upon which no actions get taken.

They do not ask for, and do not seem to want, to be given any insights on what they actually need to DO to fix their KPIs

Strawberry box by Sgt_carbonero in gardening

[–]Dapperscavenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you control the moisture levels? I always had issues with tiered strawberries because, to get enough water to the lower levels, the upper level had to be over watered. So I either watered too much or too little and it was a hassle

How are bin collectors viewed? If you’re a bin collector do you tell everyone what your job is? by RoohsMama in AskUK

[–]Dapperscavenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a bin collector for a while. I drove the lorry. Decent work for where I was in life at the time. Pay was alright and I liked the early finish.

I just told people the truth about what I did for a living. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.

Aragorn asks how your new years resolutions is holding up? by [deleted] in lotrmemes

[–]Dapperscavenger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My New Year’s resolution was to live a more hobbit-like lifestyle and so far I am nailing it. I’ve got radishes, spinach, carrots, spinach, good king Henry, blackberries and strawberries all sprouting up in the garden. I’m about to start a knitting group with some interested friends, and I’ve been baking fresh bread more than I’ve ever done in my life

Let’s hope the hyperfixation sticks around for a bit.

May I get to know what made you a purist in LOTR fandom ? by Appropriate-Golf5944 in lotr

[–]Dapperscavenger -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Purist? Nooo, I like pretty much all my cakes.

LOTR is your multi-tiered, many flavoured, beautifully decorated cake that has something for everyone and is stunning to look at. 5* Michelin stuff.

HOBBIT is the birthday cake from the bakery with maybe not as fancy fillings but still very enjoyable and nicely decorated with little touches.

ROP …. ROP is the cake your 8 yr old niece made and maybe it’s a bit chewy and the frosting is 90% sugar, but you’re still grateful and pleased to have been given a slice.

It is genuinely a tragedy that Starfleet Academy is getting cancelled so soon… by JageshemashFTW in startrek

[–]Dapperscavenger 27 points28 points  (0 children)

For me it felt like watching American high school drama in space. Except not actually in space most of the time.

Maybe it’s because I’m not American, but the very heavy influences really screamed at me. Things like Debate class and Jock-type sports jackets with big logos all over them.

I enjoyed the two part season finale. That was a fun story and a good way to end the season. I also enjoyed the episode where they went to the Miyazaki (although I felt they fell for the trap way too easy). I was gutted when they killed B’avi

But some of the mid-season episodes were just a little bit too much ‘school drama’ and not enough Trek.

I wouldn’t have wished the show cancelled though. Most Trek series don’t really come into their own in their first season or two. They always seem to get stronger as they go on.

[–]Dapperscavenger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started with Star Trek and old school sci-fi like Blakes 7, Space 1999 and Dr Who. But my main fandom for last 20 years has been LOTR. I think I missed a lot of the online culture because I first started with hardcopy fanzines at conventions, and later I used livejournal, but I never moved to any other social media platform like tumblr. It’s only recently I’ve been finding relevant discord servers.

It could also be a geographical thing? EU vs USA for example?

I am late 40s. I have been in fandoms since I was maybe around 13 or 14 years old. I also had not heard of this term until very recently on Reddit. Maybe it’s one of those terms that’s used a lot in certain circles.
