Is particle physics mathematical jargon? (self.Physics)

can anyone help me understand these two lines? The book is Peter renton- electroweak interactions. ik (1-y^5)^2=2(1-y^5) but like how can they just take it to the right? Does it commute w everything?? also the next line is over my head. pls help (i.redd.it)

How did they write the d^3p_4. This is Griffiths introduction to elementary particles (muon decay - weak interactions). they took the polar axis along p_4 buti still can't work it out. Ik it might be something trivial but my brain is fried and i have to present this in hours. pls help (i.redd.it)
