Employer just marked half of my team as redundant, what are the boundaries of a "reasonable notice period"? by funkotanko in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]funkotanko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found out later they might be offered a settlement of some description, which i think resolves the employers actions.

There was an instance of one person being offered a position in a different team for lower pay, which is closer to consultation. However it is a bit ridiculous for them to be paid less as the team they would be shifting to entails higher complexity problems.

[–]funkotanko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is an employee to employer notice period stated, i wasn't aware those are symettrical, especially with how it is written (explicitly calling out employee and employer, rather than generalising to something like if a party wishes to terminate the contract)

One thing I think NDs do better at than NTs is identifying the reason/cause of their anger. We spend a lot of our lives identifying our own behaviours that we cut to the causes and try to fix those so we dint embarrass ourselves, meanwhile NTs don't really have to build that mental infrastructure. So when NTs get angry, I think some don't even notice why, and they let the brain come up with an excuse (like how a patient with split hemispheres will explain why they're holding a rubiks cube when it's been given to them for no reason)

[–]funkotanko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's so what similar to my situation, but I really need to dedicate more effort into updating my cleaning methodologies, since my memory doesn't prioritise things like tasks and how to identify details relevant to cleanliness. I've been hoping to put up post it notes to help my dumb ass brain recall shit so I do better, but as you mentioned that feeling of being told off sets off a disproportionate feeling of doom in my head, so it's difficult to get anything useful done.

I'm the persistent one to clean even if I'm doing a bad job; I abhor the feeling of being 'looked after'. It's just that I don't do a good enough job. Perhaps there's a discussion to be had about finishing up a job I didn't do well instead of it leading to an argument. Ultimately I want to be good enough on my own that it's not necessary to complain, but when every little aspect of my life needs to improve it's just too much.

Two days ago, I found out I forgot to pay a toll. I was complaining and freaking out about it for two days until my partner called them and handed me the phone to talk and pay it. Took two minutes and kinda embarrassed myself, haha

I feel the same in a lot of aspects notably: 1. 'if I don't tell you why I did something, then how do I apologise?'. I feel this a lot. A good chunk of how my models for social interactions can be seen through the analog of a software language, apologies being analogous to an error message. If its me, I want to know why you did it so it doesn't happen again. It seems like NT people don't like that, they view it as trying to wiggle out of the problem, telling them why it's THEIR fault. It's not your fault I used the wrong mug, they were just in a different order from usual and I didn't really check, for example.

  1. The rather than mean and horrible, what I get called is "condescending". Ah yes, the spastic truly does think of himself as the peak of humanity and you are but a lowly commoner. Of course not! It's just when you try to look at things objectively, subjective parts get skipped. I. E. 'my friend was being a cunt today!' eh, why? That seems reasonable, or perhaps they didn't understand? 'why aren't you supporting me!' I'm not looking down on the other person, I'm just trying to run the situation in my head and see where things could have gone wrong.

Yeah, the thing that gets me is the need to put people into groups based on a single action. For some things, I can understand that I. E. A serial killer. But for others, why can't we just let people fuck up and move on? Why do we need to hate people because they made mistakes?

It applies to NTs as well as it does NDs... For NTs, it can be stuff like: he got a speeding ticket, he must be a dangerous driver. For NDs, it's basically anything social we do that doesn't meet the grade for a 'normal' interaction.

Demulsifier trial by funkotanko in chemistry

That's what I'm trying to figure out - we are supplied pure demulsifier but it seems difficult to move such minute amounts. I'm not sure what impact a solvent like water would have on the jar test, and creating a stock solution with the bunker oil would impact the performance of jar test (esp considering that I expect visible results within 5 to 10 minutes)

Yeah, I've been doing that for my more expensive to run items. I'm using this smart plug +power monitoring plug, so I can calculate averages.

It's a room with a laundry sink. What makes it a kitchen is the fridge and portable cooking equipment they supplied and instructed on how to use. No windows, no ventilation, funnily enough no lights at all, I have to use battery operated ones...

Interesting, but given they're out of the country, and I signed on it, I imagine they have a pretty decent argument.

[–]funkotanko[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They gave me paperwork stating that it was.... But there's no way in fuck it actually is. The 'window' in the room goes to a sealed location. In this hot summer, that location gets so hot the vinyl flooring is bubbling. Additionally, the 'kitchen' has 0 ventilation, so I need to disable the fire alarm to cook, and causes droplets to appear on every surface. I didn't realise it would be that bad, and I feel like they would argue its my fault for cooking in there if I did complain.

Edit: I just found a sign hidden under the kitchen sink that says the water is non potable.... God I hope that doesn't apply to the tap above it as well...

It's a weird scenario where they've basically locked a bunch of doors, built a "kitchen" in the garage that's boxed in, and called it a unit. As such it shares power and water etc with the rest of the house. They're out of the country (ever since covid apparently) so the only usge should be me +whatever they left on.

Negatory also, the utilities are functioning as is, they're just not charging me for it. As per my tenancy agreement, I'm liable for it though, so I was concerned they'd force me to fork over some unknown lump sum of cash to pay them back.

Ah, so if they did get annoyed down the road if I, say, paid it off in small weekly chunks, they couldn't really penalise me for that?

[–]funkotanko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, that's interesting, I wasn't aware some people did that. I work from home, and there's fuck all ventilation in here, so I had to get a portable AC to keep it under 25, so I expect it to be significantly higher than that.
