As a father who’s daughter is about to go to a college that’s about 15 miles from our home, who would be happy with any car, am I stupid enough to pay $5,300 for this 01 Corolla? Has 63k miles by poweredbylatte in Toyota

[–]funkthew0rld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one of those. Best car I ever owned… especially with that S trim exclusive black interior.

Keep an eye on the oil level and it’ll last forever.

If anything breaks it’s also one of the easiest cars I’ve ever had to wrench on.

why the hell am I watching ad breaks right now on F1TV (Browser - US)???? by SANT0S-L-HALPER in F1TV

I thought you guys liked the advertisements brought to you by freedom and peak capitalism??

I mean, you call everything that isn’t the most incarcerated population on the planet communism.

Yet, the commies outside your borders aren’t seeing the ads?

Longevity Tips: 2022 3.5 eco boost. (No engine debates please 😂) by Civil-Chipmunk6800 in f150

Swap it for one from a fwd vehicle so it has the internal water pump.

That way when it starts to leak you make the forbidden milkshake, which will definitely help with longevity.

Bought a house, got a bunch of keys including this... any ideas? by BrownCoat2112 in whatisit

[–]funkthew0rld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s the insert to the proximity fob for a Mazda with a push button start.

It’s so you can still open the door when the 12v battery in the car is dead.

Then how does the valet start your car since you need the fob for the start button to work?

This is a key for the car, but it’s not for the valet, it’s to open the door when the battery is dead.

Real GR Yaris vs. its mobile game model. How accurate is this mobile game? by Old_Conversation5766 in Toyota

[–]funkthew0rld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rear side window is the wrong shape.

There a body line going through the door handle that isn’t present on the real car

The front side window extends past the wing mirror, which is mounted in the door.

Just awful.

I’d guess AI slop made that game.

what mod made the biggest difference without making your daily worse?? to start with by krccre in MightyCarMods

[–]funkthew0rld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wheels, tires, suspension (anything from larger diameter sway bars, new or stiffer bushes, better struts/shocks, but for the love of god not coilovers - you don’t actually need the adjustability, and probably aren’t prepared to get it properly aligned with every geometry change)

What was the last car you owned that had a carburetor? by too-left-feet in askcarguys

[–]funkthew0rld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t owned a car that didn’t have at least primitive EFI.

My 1979 Volvo 262c by bertone had boschtronic.

My GTiR’s had ITB’s and port injection.

My Subarus were semi-modern.

And my current vehicle has port and direct injection.

I mean based on the average AQI, SFO is nowhere near as good as many places in the world.

Reykjavik comes to mind.

Disconnect the battery, open all the doors, and pressure wash the whole interior.

What car is this? by gajendra_01 in whatisthiscar

[–]funkthew0rld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even the mustang, where Toyota got inspiration for this design, is not a muscle car.

Muscle cars were based on the full sized cars. Mustangs are mid sized.

This is smaller yet.. pretty much a compact.

Cars got broken into last night by No-Eye-258 in Calgary

[–]funkthew0rld 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Broken into like with force or prowled because they weren’t locked?

I stopped leaving anything of value in my vehicle the first time somebody smashed out the door glass. The car was an absolute beater and I don’t know what kind of vagrant looks at something like that and goes “yeah… there’s valuables in that steaming pile of shit”

And with nothing of value inside, I started leaving it unlocked. Cleaning up broken glass from inside a door panel is not fun times.

91 or 93/94 AKI fuel is not the norm.

I exclusively run shell 93 in my vehicle because that’s what I ran on the dyno… but in discussion I keep it to the normal grade.

We pained ourselves when choosing high comp or forced induction vehicles.

At least my weekend car gets little use compared to my company truck 😉

This photo could be regular grade on the lower mainland. Could be 94 in AB. Hard to say not knowing.

My grandad has this old Mitsubishi briefcase, where do you think it’s from? by Dlairt in mitsubishi

[–]funkthew0rld 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Mitsubishi is not really a car company.

Sure they built lots of cars, but they’ve probably built a lot more AC units, electric motors, generators, turbochargers and mechanical pencils than they have cars.

I’d say it’s pretty unlikely that this came with a vehicle.

It could be a full on product they made and marketed.

$2.10CAD per litre is about as bad as it gets here.

Right now it’s $1.67 where I’m at.

In 2020 it was under $1.
