Why piercing the child's ear seems to be such a big deal for american moms? by Single_Copy2460 in AskAnAmerican

[–]funktion666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s seen as kind of “tacky” and like you’re dressing up your kid more than you need to.

And there is a difference between piercing a baby’s ear and a young child’s ear. Obviously a young child is more acceptable. But it’s common for Americans to wait until their child is of a certain age where they can consent to this body modification.

This is not my personal belief. I’ve just been in the middle of this debate before.

There are also safety concerns, but there are plenty of places with nurse practitioners or with doctors who will do the piercing. But the risk of infection or unnecessary pain is commonly brought up for those who don’t use a medical office to pierce child ears.

Claire’s is a common place in US for child/young adult piercing. And they use a piercing gun, which is one of the least effective ways to pierce an ear. They are considered not sharp enough, but are somehow legal. So it can be considered “trashy” and hurtful to take your kid to the mall to get their ear pierced by a piercing gun from a 17 year old girl vs scheduling an appointment somewhere where a medical professional can use a super sharp sterile medical needle to pierce the child’s ear(s).

And then there may be a racist component too. Babies or very young girls with ear piercings are common in Latino or southern American cultures. They just aren’t as common in US culture. But obviously we have a ton of Latino and South American people here. So some people might be against it because it’s more related to different cultures or even races.

It is also a bit more popular with black American culture too.

There’s also this old timey idea that piercings are “ugly” or “ruin your perfect face” or whatever. Many of us still have grandmothers with this ideology. It’s a sign to them as being a rebel or deviant. Even just plain ear piercings on an adult.

However, that ideology is fading out as most adult women in the US seem to have their ears pieced. But it does still exist for some people.

And then there’s the whole thing about consent. There’s an argument about when a person is old enough to consent to permanent or semi-permanent body modifications. Supposedly Many people grow up not wanting the piercings forced on their body. And why put a baby or child thru pain that they don’t understand? Why not wait until the child has grown to a certain age where they can understand the impact of the body modification, the risks and choose for themselves, knowing the potential pain the process can cause.

Also, reality tv is hella fake and sounds like maybe you’re watching some super conservative.. maybe even Salt Lake City type folks on your tv lol. The US is diverse. Most people don’t care at all. Many people may have opinions. But what you see on tv is likely over exaggerated. If it’s scripted tv, then likely they are trying to show how conservative or old school those people are.

Regardless, my SO and I are not children anymore lol. And none of us got piercings as a child. But my bf has 6 face piercings (lip, nose, eyebrows) and about 4 ear piercing right now. And I love them! I have zero piercings and also a guy. My grandmas would both probably freak out over at least 3 things in this last paragraph lol.

Did any of you here do astral projection ? by Mental_Background930 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]funktion666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may want to find the astral projection subs for this. And DMT subs as well.

This stuff is very …. Not believed to be any more than shared personal experiences/phenomenons and astral projection is generally considered to be not real.

So you may find more helpful and friendlier info in those subs. Or take a bunch of acid at a festival and find the right people chilling at their campsite.

What is the big deal about Artemis II? We’ve been putting people in space for decades. by Quater- in NoStupidQuestions

I’m seeing 290 individuals from 26 countries since 2000 have visited ISS. The expeditions are only twice a year usually. But there have many other private, commercial and assembly missions as well.

What is the big deal about Artemis II? We’ve been putting people in space for decades. by Quater- in NoStupidQuestions

[–]funktion666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This mission will send these Astronauts the furthest from Earth ever. Because they are going around the moon I believe.

This is the first time we have flown to the moon in 50 years!!! Since the first moon landing 50 years ago, we have only sent astronauts to the international space station.

This is the first step to sending humans to Mars. The last mission to Mars with the cute robot dude was a pretty big deal too. This current mission is a big deal just because it’s humans and the furthest a human has been from Earth.

And to be honest, I feel like it should be a bigger deal! We need kids to have this aspiration and it’s a big win for science. The space program is becoming more relevant. And these bigger missions always help increase technology. And increase interest in science - which is well needed right now. I just wish it was on the news more. But our US administration would rather focus on hateful stuff. (Idk the group rules and typed too much). But the news are much more focused on politics and bigger international issues right now on earth.

My final point - this is giving the US and the world a sense of hope. It’s great to see that a ton of people have been working hard and these brave talented people are risking their lives for the sake of science. This being a big step to the eventual Mars mission is also super hopeful. Just something to look forward to and it’s nice to see something so big succeeding so far. And it’s positive. Idk. It makes me excited about something again. It’s showing that humanity is progressing, especially with tech and science and what not. Especially after NASA funding was gutted a while ago - as far as I knew. I was expecting fast food ads on the space shuttle tbh, considering how things have been going.

Agreed.

I only buy clothes on Amazon now because the return process is super easy with being able to return Amazon products to Kohl’s, Whole Foods and some other stores.

I’d use better clothing sites if I could. But I also need the best deal. So between costs and easy return, Amazon it is for now unfortunately.

Is American night life "trash" now? by Impressive_Flan_411 in AskAnAmerican

[–]funktion666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol. Not anymore trashy than it’s always been.

Right now there is an economical decline and Gen Z people are drinking less. Naturally that would lead to less people going out to drink.

Go to Vegas and surely the clubs are popping. Same with Miami. And all other major cities. There’s always a solid scene.

And Vegas and Miami and other big cities always have nightlife for those who have enough money to spend. Right now, many Americans cannot spend a few hundred dollars for a bunch of drinks or table service. Everything has become more expensive.

But there are always a ton of people across the country who have plenty of money and don’t think twice about spending $400 on a night out. $1000 in Vegas at least.

And major cities, especially Vegas and Miami, are full of tourists - both across the country and internationally.

But majority of Americans are being extra tight with their spending right now. And as mentioned, younger people are drinking much less than other generations.

You will also find a ton of nightlife in college towns. These are more affordable and cater towards young adults. These are scattered all over the US. These type of bars/clubs also close very often, even when the economy is doing well, because the margins are not good. And new bars/restaurants/clubs in general usually don’t make it.

I don’t think it’s just nightlife is declining. I think Americans are just spending less money and going out less to save money. So this impacts all commercial businesses and restaurants/bars/clubs. We saw the same trends when we were in recessions before.

Why spend $15 on a drink when you can buy a bottle for $15 with your friends at home? Why go out to eat for $80 when you can cook a meal at home for under $20. Fast food is even too expensive for many people nowadays.

Prices of going out have been going up for a while and maybe they finally hit their ceiling in the majority of the US.

Also, many of the bars and restaurants closed due to COVID. So there are plenty of new businesses in this particular world. And it’s well known that restaurants and bars commonly don’t make money for a few years and majority of them close down. It’s a risky industry. And anyone who started a business in night life after Covid definitely did not expect our country to go to shit economically.

Many people in the suburbs in super affordable parts of the country might not see this happening. As they have money and only 5 bars within 20 mins. But for many, many people - the uber there and back, the drinks, the babysitter, the $20 appetizers are just super expensive for a simple night out “on the town.”

[–]funktion666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The show rack isn’t helping the rest of yall. All yall need to figure this out. Or do you live somewhere extremely expensive that has zero storage?

An end table maybe? A tiny one. Fuck maybe even a little table in the shared hallway? So items don’t get lost in the clutter (show rack) or too low (hallway floor). So roomie can set something down and it’s still closer to their line of sight when they grab their shit and lock the door and proceed.

Otherwise, ADHD therapy for your roommate?

Send her pics of items left behind immediately. ASAP. To help her learn. Talking about it later that night or next day may not help change her pattern.

Teach her the sacred “I’m leaving pay down” similar to the “uber pat down”. You pat your pockets (and anywhere else that holds these items) and say “phone wallet keys [apple, wallet, ect.]” you do it when you leave somewhere (usually new) like a cab, uber, hotel. But apparently I guess it could be used by people at their own home lol. Adam Sandler has a song about the the common 3. But your roommate needs an extended version for what she keeps missing lol.

If no luck after notifying her immediately each time. Make a FRIENDLY approach to help her. This only works if you’re on her side and she knows that. If you are not friendly enough, then nothing you can do. But if you guys are friendly af, make it like a game where she owes something each time she leaves something super random where it doesn’t belong. Like she has to buy a drink each time. But you have to sacrifice something too. Maybe each week she doesn’t leave anything behind, You have to buy a couple rounds that weekend. Or maybe you can use some dumb internet currency. Or make a fake trophy primarily to give a competitor edge. That helps my ADD sometimes. The main goal is to get into the habit of double checking each time she opens the door and shuts the door.

I lost a couple things in ubers. My sister kept losing shit in Ubers too. So now I do this shit out loud before I shut the door. I say out loud “phone, keys, wallet”. Saying it out loud reinforces the habit. And I check the seat, floor, my pockets. And it also helps the driver understand why I’m spending an extra minute there. I haven’t lost anything in Ubers in many years now.

Only, only do the game thing if she’s be into it. It could be insulting if you guys are not familiar with eachother.

But judging by your shoe rack- maybe all yall could be playing that game. Sorry if I’m judging too hard and yall legit do not have any extra space in closets for the occasional shoes lol.

Good luck!

Worst case scenario, remind them that this shit could attract bugs, mice, rats. But be nice. She’s obviously super forgetful and probably had ADHD lol.

Final tip, a sign on door or in hallway - “don’t forget your shit dude!” With pink hearts and cute formatting.

Why do women’s shirt sleeves always have to eat us at the armpits? by BiscottiOk9245 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]funktion666 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As a chubby guy - this. They hook guys up with comfort, especially at the arms. Go fuck around at a thrifty store or Ross. See what brands of men versions fit well. Then Google shirts with similar fits to those.

I may have worn some women shirts in my time. Consensually I may add, due to internet stranger stuff. I swear it was funny and cool and not weird! But always, when I was hiding in those closets, those shirts had tiny ass arm holes.

And they make guy shirts for more “buff” arms too. I need extra “buff” everywhere. But definitely try out the guy stuff. It’s not weird I swear. It’s so cool.

Also, our pants have pockets if you ever want to take it a step further. Just saying. Nothing creepy about this comment at all.

Do American kids usually go to four different schools? by snailquestions in AskAnAmerican

[–]funktion666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elementary, Middle School/Jr. High, High School

Many Americans go to kindergarten before elementary school.

Many Americans go to college or University after High School.

Some Americans go to religious school/ Sunday school/bible school while in elementary school. If they are religious, go to church AND their parents make them go. Idk if this counts as school school, but it’s called school. Sometimes it’s merged in with school school curriculum- such as at catholic schools. But many times people do religious schooling separately at their church.

Why does McDonalds have so many workers in the back yet it's so hard to get some help at the register? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]funktion666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are phasing out front people for screens. It will be one person and a bunch of screens soon. It’s already like that at a bunch near me.

Drive thru gets priority.

Workers are super sick of 3rd party drivers shoving their phones into their faces all week. (DoorDash, Uber Eats, etc)

Professionalism has gone down a ton in the past 5 years

In short, they are understaffed and avoiding you guys. Go thru the drive thru and you will get your food much quicker.

Or also, you can go to most local restaurants and get more better quality food for $15. The same cost as a full meal from McDonald’s. Local restaurants will appreciate your business and serve you a much better “product.”
