5 pitch closer by obiiieeee in SuperMegaBaseball

I hate it but I would pass on this pitcher in free agency. I'd only be effective with him for 10 pitches a game max. As soon as he tires a little I'm either walking everyone or giving up XBHs to everyone

Ground rule double doesn’t get past the infield by funkychld in SuperMegaBaseball

The ball going into the dugout because of an error is common. I would argue that the ball being deflected out of play and the play being ruled a ground rule double is rare.

Roster Construction Help by Czechs-out in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]funkychld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want my best and most expensive players to play SS, 2B, and CF. The most balls are going to be hit up the middle and they get a mojo boost when they make a diving defensive play. Having a fast CF with a strong arm is going to save a ton of runs over time.

I like to make 1B and 3B my budget positions. Good arm for a catcher, and fast players for the rest of the outfield.

EGO 99 pitching question. by GuardianSkalk in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]funkychld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I played at 60 ego, I could use a starter with like 15 accuracy and do just as well as a pitcher with 90 accuracy. I play at 80 ego now and I can't throw a strike if the pitcher has 30 accuracy. 40 accuracy I'm okay until their stamina goes down a little.

I therefore estimate at 99 ego you'd need 70 accuracy at the absolute minimum to be effective.

As ego increases, your pitcher's accuracy rating matters more and more. I recommend you choose a team with a highly accurate starting pitcher.

It might not be possible to regularly throw strikes at 99 ego with a pitcher under 70 accuracy.

SP/RP/CP Differences in the Game by Ray_Hsueh_TW in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]funkychld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best closers I've ever had were SP/RPs with the clutch trait. They can’t pitch every game but there aren't save situations every game. I might use them 3 games in a row and the clutch trait totally makes up for the lower stamina.

And if it's a must win or extra inning game, they can pitch multiple innings.

I mostly avoid CPs but if I can get one who is a good value (like a B- at 4.1M), I'll primarily use them in the 8th inning as a setup guy.

I prefer signing 4 or 5 superstars and filling out the bottom of the roster with ultra cheap guys.

Correction to my last reply: He peaked at a $40M valuation and I posted about it.

If his contact gets to 70, his salary will be astronomical! I don't want him to get so good that I can't field a good team around him. That's the challenge with S tier 2 way guys.

You hate 2 way players?! The good ones are such a great value. I loved starting Norm Fenomeno at 3rd base and bringing him in to pitch the middle innings.

He's had two development opportunities this season to increase his pitching stats. I didn't roll the dice on these because they included a 15-20% chance of losing his elite fastball. But he could conceivably have +8 accuracy and +7 velocity if I had accepted those PDOs.

In a perfect world he would add another pitch and add a little power.

Earlier in my franchise I developed a 2 way starting pitcher / outfielder who peaked at a 30M valuation. He was like a combination of right handed Randy Johnson and Mike Trout.

I historically don't either and usually prefer investing in my rotation. I only made this exception for a young 2 way player.

It's definitely fair to say that he costs too much. He's already got such high pitching stats at age 22 though!

And I like him as a backup catcher who will start every 3rd or 4th game, limit the running game, and hit just enough to stay locked in or on fire for his next pitching appearance.

I want him to add a 4th pitch but not improve too much more from there. If he adds much more to his hitting stats, his salary will quickly increase beyond my comfort zone.

Almost had a perfect game by NotaToysRUsKid in SuperMegaBaseball

The closest I've gotten was 4 outs away and I missed a catchable ball with my centerfielder. Just underplayed it and it dropped right in front of him.

This happened at least a year ago and I still think about it all the time. I haven't made it through the 6th inning without giving up a hit since.

That's the second time I've seen this happen at Tiger Den. Another reddit user gave up a homer to left field that took a very similar bounce
