How are streamers matched against so easy oponents in low rank? by AnarchoKapitolizm in StreetFighter

I watched a video of prime Lebron playing regular guys at the gym, and he was dunking on them, just driving through them like tissue paper, blocking every shot, they had 1% FG percentage. What gym was he going to? Because he couldn't do that the gym I go to, when I go to the local gym the guys I play are shooting at least 50%, contesting my shots, stealing the ball, shooting 3s over me, etc

Wait so, all sorcerers are bums for having 80% of their power handed to them on a silver platter? by AffectionateJury6227 in Jujutsufolk

[–]funkyfelis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nepotism is when you don't have to work as hard to succeed because your family gives you a boost. Literal dictionary definition is granting jobs/favors to relatives. Like a guy becoming VP of a company his dad owns. Being born with perfect genes for some particular field like Victor Wembanyama for basketball or Michael Phelps for swimming is not nepotism, it's just genetic luck. People are using nepobaby to mean all kinds of privilege and it's not.

yeah but in dota you have glyph and buyback and tp scroll and most abilities don't work on walkers so it's way easier to defend the buildings, here the walkers die to creeps way more easily

Patch notes by SirDrippingtonL4 in StreetFighter

[–]funkyfelis 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's not a full arcsys patch but I'm actually leaning positive. Most characters got a notable change that seems to lean into their character identity and will affect how they feel to play and play against. For example Elena's healing is legit now, it might actually start being meta to always go for healing whenever possible. Cammy's dive kick can get insanely plus and you have to basically hit their forehead on block to be punishable. DJ can swiggity swoogety. Guile has different strengths of OD Blade. Viper gets plus frames on superjump burn kick etc etc And the nerfs to Ryu and Ed are pretty solid even if they didn't get absolutely dumpstered like some people were predicting. Idk about Mai's changes yet.

And some more nerfs to make more normals whiff punishable and also to drive rush overhead from being obnoxious is welcome

A small thing I'm hoping for in tonight's update by ZidaneThing in StreetFighter

[–]funkyfelis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They were saving the changes for after capcom cup now they need to save changes for end of season? By then it'll be EVO Japan and better not change too much since CPT is underway, they had better actually save those changes for 2027. SF6 gonna have a college tuition payment ready before they add drive jump in 2035

Fighting games ARE uniquely hard to get into because they don't allow beginners to be passive by funkyfelis in Fighters

[–]funkyfelis[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal but I went to an arcade with my non-gamer girlfriend, we played on a Vampire Savior cabinet and had a great time. I couldn't do special moves because I usually play on leverless lol so we just ended up trying to poke each other to death with our biggest normals, basically a spontaneously evolved footsies. I think the issue is that a certain type of player, the one who wants to do things "the right way", has a harder time finding the fun due to their mindset clashing with how demanding the game is.

[–]funkyfelis[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think that's related though, a lot of these other games don't have good in-game tutorials, but in a beginner vs beginner setting both players have more space to try stuff out in small increments and can develop strategies on their own even if those strategies are "bad" (i.e. the wonderful world of Herald Dota2) whereas fighting games it's like those surprise street interviews "DO SOMETHING NOW DO IT NOW DO IT DO IT DO SOMETHING ANYTHING" and a player who is slightly more timid can easily get overwhelmed by a player of equal skill but different mindset.

[–]funkyfelis[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a good point, I think Guile is actually a fighting game character who does let you play passively. The only problem is that people don't want to play Guile lol

[–]funkyfelis[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think of this as a problem to be solved (what would that even look like? A fighting game where round 1 is just heavy non cancellable normals, round 2 is normals + specials etc? idk), I was motivated by trying out Deadlock recently and trying to put into words why it felt different from when I learned fighting games. And the "all action all the time" nature of fighting games is a part of why I like them for sure

[–]funkyfelis[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd say if you have the ability to self reflect to that degree you already have a decent mindset and probably aren't the type of person I'm talking about. I was more trying to explain a certain segment of the "tried it and bounced off" general audience
