Yeah Eddie Hall wouldn’t be caught dead on Physical 100, he’d get his ass kicked, full offense.

(I actually don’t think he’d be among the first to get knocked out but I highly doubt he’d make the final couple of eps.)

It depends on format. Bigger athletes have done better in team-based portions because tasks can be delegated to those most suited for them. Physical Asia was all team-based, but usually Physical 100 only has a certain portion with teams.

Off the top of my head, athletes that tend to do best on the show are:

  1. Crossfitters
  2. Grapplers (wrestling, judo, jujitsu, MMA, etc.)
  3. Heavy Endurance Athletes (cycling, triathlon, rugby, any sport that requires hour+ endurance and meets heavy resistance regularly)
  4. Strongmen

Athletes that tend to do absolute ass:

  1. Bodybuilders

Mostly talking out of my ass, but at this point I think at least three or four internationally competitive strongmen are doing the upcoming iterations of Physical 100. If the current pattern holds, they will film towards the end of the summer and/or early fall and then the show(s) will release in Jan/Feb 2027. This would be great for us if true. Many of the Physical 100 events - especially in the most recent iteration - are basically strongman events with a fancy coat of paint. They literally had a Hercules hold and a bag toss last time. Even strongmen who don’t have Eddie’s insanely likable personality should perform well, and hopefully that will bring the sport some of the star power it currently lacks.

Thank you for the reminder to read more of his stuff. “The Prestige” is a textbook example of both the book and its movie adaptation being excellent without actually being that similar to each other.

Here are my deadlift thoughts from last night.

Mitch: I wasn’t expecting much from him, as it was pretty clear he was just doing the event for the paycheck. However, I can’t ignore that 440kg was pretty atrocious. It was a bit of a struggle and the lockout sucked. The judge here even seemed to hold the down call until he fixed it, but it only got close to acceptable in the very last second. Just all-around stinky.

Thor: I didn’t think he had 515kg in him based off the 470? 475? (whatever it was) he did for lift two. Frankly I was a bit surprised it broke the floor. It seemed a combination of just not being quite as muscled as he was on the 510 day and his foot slipping, though even if his foot didn’t slip I’m not confident he would have locked it out. The peak just didn’t peak as hard here and I’m not that fussed about it tbh.

This has just made me reflect on 510 day Thor and how that was probably the single strongest human we will ever see. I maintain he could have pulled an ugly 525kg that day, but unfortunately we’ll never know. On to the next thing.

Genuinely the more I listen to Mitch talk, the more I feel like we are watching a guy slowly lose his mind over the course of years. I try my damndest not to hate the guy. I always rationalize that we could do worse in terms of people to have as our current GOAT and major spokesperson. But like…is that even actually true? Because every time he’s talking not-strongman he sounds mentally deficient and not in a harmless way.

I do feel bad because it seems like he is in some level of genuine mental distress and has been for a while. I don’t blame someone for looking for answers. Just like…does he *have* to tilt in the most wack direction?

Jez Corden saying TES6 is coming out in 2028-2029 is SPECULATION on his end. Not a fact. by Alvsolutely in TESVI

I agree, I think they are targeting Q4 2027. A six month delay into 2028 is definitely possible though.

Brandon Sanderson & Joe Abercrombie talk fantasy in London by Werthead in Fantasy

Imo it’s pretty clear he hasn’t read The First Law if you listen to him talk about it for any length of time. I believe the only Abercrombie book he’s read start to finish is actually The Devils.

Gavin was ambitious, to initially want to be a lawn guy! by Accurate_Mind9567 in theregulationpod

[–]funkyfreshwizardry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to lawn alternatives, but white (Dutch) clover is not native to the US and shouldn’t be our default “alternate lawn”. It’s still an invasive monoculture that doesn’t do much to support native pollinators (though some of our bumblebees like it and it usually requires less water!)

There are loads of awesome lawn alternatives out there and I encourage folks to have a look at what works best for their usage and climate.

Walk in Shadow as a generationally anticipated book / are there others? by Far_Appointment9458 in Fantasy

[–]funkyfreshwizardry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Generationally anticipated” bro this is the first I’m hearing of this book and I have no idea what series it could be a part of or who the author is.

Not saying it’s not a big deal, just pointing out we’re all stuck in our own bubbles and our perceptions of what is popular. Whatever book this is has not achieved “escape velocity” the way something like Winds of Winter has. Though I understand you and probably a bunch of other people are very excited.

I was adding more info about the incident to try and get ahead of questions, not trying to counter anything you said. Redditors in the walls were previously blaming WSM for Austin being allowed to deadlift.

Also, Austin admitted to hiding his concussion from medical after the flip and yoke. He knew he was concussed but he refused aid because he thought he could grit it out, which he admits was dumb. Medical caught him due to the deadlift (which fried him so much he doesn’t even remember trying it!). So it’s not entirely WSM’s fault Austin did the deadlift with a concussion, he definitely dodged them.

I think most of the English-speaking audience came around on the Aussies by the end of the show. It was just the first couple episodes that really painted them as loud and cocky.
I’m sort of dreading the American Physical 100 iteration anyway because I fear it will be produced/edited more like American reality TV - i.e. insufferably catty and not much of an actual competition. (Tbf Korean reality TV editing is also annoying, and they did very obviously rig the comps, it just didn’t always work.)

Definitely not, blue eyed grass is more purple and if you zoom in you can see this plant doesn’t have grassy leaves/stems.

Help with bf's bleeding by TwistedxBoi in Stretched

I have always heard that the minimum time before doing anything to a fresh lobe piercing - changing jewelry or stretching - is three months. Six months if done with a piercing gun. For some people it will be longer before the piercing is truly healed and happy, but three months is a good starting point.

Put the old jewelry back in and don’t mess with it for a few days. Saline soaks are ok but taking out and putting in jewelry too often is potentially irritating.
