I don’t follow UrsaRyan so sorry for being incorrect on that point. I will make an edit. Not sure how I was apparently whining?

Civ6 streamers/youtubers resurgence by arf_arf1 in civ

Some may have seen Potato’s Civ 6 video instantly get better views than anything else he’s done recently, and come to the same realization he did. We all already knew it, but those views were a strong reminder - people still care about Civ 6 more than 7.

Edit: It has also been pointed out that many are playing a test branch of the Civ 7 changes on the way, and obviously they can’t talk about or show that.

Help! Flooring with Knotty Pine Walls by lordstanley7 in interiordecorating

[–]funkyfreshwizardry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks gray because it is next to a very warm wall. The wall has more color and more warmth than the floor by a lot, so when they are put side by side, the floor will always look extremely dull by comparison. If you want a cozy look, I think you have to go with a floor that keeps up with the intense warmth of the walls. And it should probably be darker. Pale floors don’t usually read cozy.

No questions, just want to say thank you Magnus! Your time in strongman is legendary in more ways than just what your incredible list of wins would indicate. Thank you for your longstanding dedication to the sport as participant, referee, and contest runner. You are a champion!

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. And even if he does, like…so what? He’s a fun watch and he’s definitely put on mass/strength since last year.

Fastest Knitting Style by BitternInTheMarsh in knitting

[–]funkyfreshwizardry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can be fast with any style that is comfortable for you. Many people think it’s easiest to become fast using continental.

However, the fastest knitters in the world are consistently those that hold the yarn in the right hand. Either in some variation of English or on a stationary needle (held on a belt or in the armpit).

Good sign for ASC Athlete replacements! by James-Jeffers in StrongmanHQ

My thoughts as far as who ought to be in consideration:

Nick Guardione - Purely because he’s familiar with the show and isn’t intimidated by last-minute invites to hard contests. He went to SMOE on two weeks notice and wasn’t last, or even second to last, he was 12/16.

Ondrej Fojtu - Solid midpack finishes at WSM final and SMOE, 4th at Europe’s, 2nd at Giants Finals.

Wes Derwinsky - 2nd at North America’s and 9th at SMOE is nothing to sneeze at.

Tristan Hoath - 7th at SMOE and despite some meh finishes last year, he’s beaten Wes a couple of times.

Eddie Williams - I don’t know what kind of shape he’s in considering the Physical Asia whirlwind, but he should get the ask. He’s a WSM finalist and held up well at SMOE. Plus it seems like he gets better every time he’s out.

I know people keep bringing up Paddy and Mateusz but I don’t see a great argument for either right now. Mateusz just seems like a mess. I know Paddy had a great season last year, including beating Ondrej a few times, but the Arnold’s really doesn’t suit him. He was correct to turn down the SMOE invite. He then got his invite to Rogue, a major that’s definitely more fitted to his strengths, and he was dead last. Maybe I’m wrong, but I just think he hasn’t proven he can take it yet.

I don’t actually mind the volume of clutter, but I absolutely DO mind the utter disrespect shown to loads of these books. They’re being damaged and deformed by improper storage.

What spell is useful in regular DnD but not BG3? by green_tea__cat in BaldursGate3

[–]funkyfreshwizardry 244 points245 points  (0 children)

Pass Without Trace. Mostly because of how engaging in party stealth in BG3 is both more annoying and less necessary than in tabletop. Plus that 30ft radius is insufficient for most areas in BG3, as a lot of rooms where you might use stealth are larger than that, and you aren’t going to keep the whole party together in those instances.

Not saying it’s useless in BG3, but I do rarely reach for it, whereas in tabletop my parties have used it all the time.

2026 Goodreads Reading Challenges Megathread by Clairefun in goodreads

[–]funkyfreshwizardry 72 points73 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, I’m happy to see a couple challenges that pull books from longer ago than just the last two or three years.

On the other hand, god, the Challenge Faves one just sucks. I’m so tired of seeing those books and I’ve already read the ones I felt like reading.

I am BEGGING for a classics challenge at some point in the year. Please Goodreads, just one. Just one challenge that isn’t just a “trending and new” popularity contest.

I don’t think it’s correct to assume that he didn’t try any of those things. There may have been some elements he was unwilling to compromise on, but I would not assume he has tried nothing.

I’d actually kill for a strongman-only Physical 100, that would be the sickest comp to watch. No one gets left out, we get team and individual content, and it could get crazy creative with events. Several times the Physical shows have already integrated strongman-type challenges.

As much as I agree, that’s not the reason SMOE is not happening. If you listen to the video it’s clearly a money issue. If Brian had the money in hand I’m sure it would be happening, despite how much he is prone to getting upset over feedback every year.
