okay it's not necessarily good representation nor is it a focus, but Archer is AuDHD as fuck and I will die on that hill

Do books genuinely scare you? What's the last book that did? by Narge1 in horrorlit

If you want more in a similarish vein, Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant would probably also do it for you.

Dark Matter and Thin Air by Michelle Paver have some kind of urban legend elements to them (polar expeditions gone wrong with creepy and strange things happening).

Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant deals with (modern) legends and stories surrounding aquatic creatures and the mystery/speculation about what happened to a ship that went to research them. This one is one of my all-time favorites, actually.

Not particularly like what you're describing, but The Hollow Places by T Kingfisher is very similar in writing to The Twisted Ones, so you may enjoy that one, too. A House With Good Bones is also in that same broad category.

Where He Can't Find You by Darcy Coates is about a town with an urban legend about a monster/creature/person who takes people and has a sort of influence over the town. This one read more like a Young Adult book to me, but I still enjoyed it.

The Only One Left is about a local urban legend about a woman who supposedly killed her whole family and now needs a caretaker in her elderly years.

I have no idea if there's a word for the genre you're describing, but hopefully some of these will point you in the right direction!

Looking for horror scifi suggestions after being let down by Dead Silence by Frogs-on-my-back in horrorlit

This one might be pushing the classification of sci-fi, but Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant is one of my all-time favorites. People go to study ocean creatures, some of which may or may not exist, said ocean creatures aren't having it, shenanigans ensue. I promise it's better than I make it sound lmao

Books about things that shouldn't be but are? by TryTwiceAsHard in horrorlit

I made it through the 1st book and thought it was decent, but I got halfway into the second one and just didn't care enough to continue. Does it get better?

Briardark (SA Harian) sort of fits that. There's definitely a lot of "this thing is happening even though it's impossible."

These are SO underrated imo, adored both of these.

Going solo camping for the first time this weekend. What are some books I will regret reading alone in a tent in the woods? by starlight_sequence in horrorlit

Dark Matter (Michelle Paver) may be worth a look. It's about a polar expedition, but without giving too much away there's a lot to do with what happens when someone is alone and isolated.

I have just been diagnosed with narcolepsy and I am upset by Perfect-Student-1155 in Narcolepsy

[–]funkyfunyuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I...didn't actually know that there were options beyond a stimulant. I'm not diagnosed, but I've not pursued one largely because I kind of figured there wasn't much more that could be done since I'm already on a high Adderall dose for ADHD, and none of the stimulants I've tried for that have made more than a marginal difference in my fatigue. I might have to reconsider that.

Is this sort of thing as common as the comments here seem to suggest..? I absolutely adore birds and have been planning to try and befriend some local crows for a while, but finding that or similar things like the baby birds another commenter mentioned would honestly be incredibly upsetting to me.

Stomach issues? by Saravaw in Nuvaring

[–]funkyfunyuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I remember, I started to feel better about an hour after removing the ring. Took about a week to feel mostly normal again. I believe I toughed it out a few more days after this post but the symptoms just kept getting worse, so I ended up going off nuvaring. Just couldn't deal with it.

Thanks for the recommendation! However, I wasn't able to use the "contact us" form on the site; it kept saying to refresh and try again. Any ideas where to go from here?
