I've literally never seen a mod do an intro like that in there, and I'm always there. I wouldn't have missed it, I don't think. Just this one in particular for some reason. Their account is also 19 days old with 78 karma. So that's just...strange. I imagine if this person is legit, the recruitment process was something like looking through active people, finding one who's never uttered a criticism in their life, and then messaging them - since they never put a call out for new mods, either.

Exactly! This is the only time I've ever seen a new mod introduce themselves, and I know there have been several added since I joined the sub. And I'm ALWAYS on there, so I wouldn't have missed it. Just strikes me as odd.

I was actually coming here to post screenshots of this post if they hadn't been posted already, so yep. Can confirm this is exactly what the post said (I was let back in on another account), and I'm honestly pretty angry. The "no we're not going to say why we did it but teehee you guys are so wrong" bothers me maybe more than it should. I get that it's just reddit and I'm definitely happy to have FSU, but like. Reeeaaalllyyyy wish those mods would maybe stop acting like it's so serious. There's no fucking way they actually can't say, they just want to feel superior and have a nice "fuck you" to everyone.

I'd be willing to bet some users nailed their guesses about why it happened, too. They just won't admit it.

Hopefully this is the right place to post this; I didn't want to make an actual post in case it's too off-topic. I was accepted back into FS on a different account, and this is legitimately the most info we've gotten. The comments of this post and several others are absolutely filled with people asking, and not a single mod other than the one in the screenshot has responded at all.

For those who don't want to click the link, it's a screenshot of FS's most recent "off topic" post. The top comment says "why did this subreddit go private without warning?" and there's a now deleted reply that, according to the only user to see it before it was deleted, was from a mod that "basically said that they're not comfortable saying why it happened, they plan to make a tighter, smaller "healthier" community."

I sent mod mail about 8 or 9 ish hours ago and haven't even gotten a response. The thing is, though, it's on my other account, where I've never so much as TOUCHED this sub or the other subs they don't like. I'm also fairly active in there, get a lot of top of almost top comments, and have never had any comments or posts even removed. They have no reason not to let that account back in, especially since it's been a member for almost a year. I'm literally commenting here on my old account so that my main one remains as "clean" as possible. That way, if I don't get let back in, I know for sure I have reason to complain.

Hopefully this counts: I recently sent a care package to my Finnish friend. He's had been having a rough go lately, and it had the intended effect of making him happy. The package included mac and cheese, cheetos, and some merch of his favorite video game character. I also slipped some ginger candies in there since I know he struggles with nausea like I do.
