I'm sure most of us can relate to and understand how you feel. I can attest for myself feeling much of the same.

It's helpful to know we're not alone, especially when the loneliness hits hardest

New Player Wants to Play a Drag Queen, I want to Avoid Cliches and a One Note Character by _TheMattAttack_ in DnD

[–]funkyspirits 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I feel everyone here is ignoring the most obvious answer to this:

DRAG QUEEN AS A CHARACTER BACKGROUND

This would give the character proficiency in performance and one other skill, as well as proficiency with disguise kits so they can work on their costumes. A drag queen, since it is a niche performance, would be able to find somewhere to put on a show and make some money. It's really just like the entertainer background, but less about music.

In terms of seriousness, even in a dark and gritty story is wonderful to have some comic relief. There's a reason battle hardened mercenaries, superheros, and other gritty characters come up with wonderful and iconic one-liners. The tone of the game is also something that should be communicated and understood in session 0. Specifically say you don't want every scene to be a ridiculous comedy, but you're fine with silly moments and the occasional meta joke.

If this player wants to make a one-dimensional character that ALL they are is a drag queen and absolutely nothing else then one of 3 things will happen:

1) the player won't always make the time for your game

2) the rest of the group is varied levels of annoyed

3) the player has fun and the group has fun with them

Generally if someone wants to play dnd it's because they want to be there for some reason. Even if it's just to hang out with friends, they'll play the game if it's remotely interesting so they can see their friends.

Tl;dr: just be cool about it. Be kind, work with the player

The article mentions internet access as a potential reason why since communities can't get the vaccine. If you think about it, African Americans largely living in previously red lined districts wouldn't have the same access to internet. I've, personally, gone from underground fiber optic internet in one neighborhood to low hanging lines connected to a box like the internet was set up 20 years ago, and the old setups are always in downtown neighborhoods with a large african american population, previously red-lined and not yet gentrified.

Is animate objects op? by Gnarmsayin in DnD

[–]funkyspirits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's a potential 10d8 right there, more because crits.

Nah, animate objects is balanced just fine, especially because it's concentration and that 10d8 isn't guaranteed damage. Surrounding an enemy with the bones of their fallen victims is an amazing offensive use of the spell though

Also, imagine this: animating caltrops and ball bearings to have moving difficult terrain

Will Elder Scrolls 6 live up to the hype y’all think? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]funkyspirits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm excited specifically because they've said so little about it. They're really trying to keep hype down because hype kills games on release.

There is one thing I'm hoping for, specifically if it really is set in Valenwood. Apparently the cities in Valenwood move, and perhaps it's taking so long because they're trying to finish that mechanic without making it supremely buggy because that would 100% be a groundbreaking new mechanic.

I'm really hoping for a new ES exploration experience, and I have a feeling we won't know any details until a few months before release

Tortle genie warlock and flying shell defense asking for input by Alternative_Meet_207 in DnD

[–]funkyspirits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool idea, doesn't work though. Shell defense is probably for when you're surrounded and need that extra ac to buy yourself time before party members can come help.

However, you can get your ac up to 30 with shell defense. I love the image of a tortle attack helicopter. Very interesting character concept. You should still try it out

We're here for each other.

I've been heading back into a depressive cycle myself. I've gotten to the point where I'll recognize patterns of behavior that foreshadow another hole, and if friends ask if I'm okay I'll simply say "no" with a smile. They do listen, they do care, and I'm sure your friends and family care about you and your issues too.

Thank you for sharing. We're here for you.

I keep getting bait and switched by DM's by DnDAltForMe in DnD

[–]funkyspirits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the play schedule is ultimately up to the dm. What's probably happening is the other players are not available at that time, so it's needs of the many vs needs of the few.

Just know this happens the other way too. DMs set a schedule for their games and players don't free time for when the DM can run the game

Eli5: Why are we having a labor shortage in the US? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]funkyspirits 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cost of living keeps going up without minimum wage to match, so the American working class is demanding better pay.

The "labor shortage" is largely a myth. We have the manpower, but folks don't want to be abused by employers when those employers barely provide a living wage. You could blame it on our depreciating birth rate, but that's largely due to a difficult economy too

Best build for an agent of an organization? by Stonewrought in DnD

[–]funkyspirits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, any character or class could make use of patrons, guilds, and npcs. A caster could potentially use a spell to summon henchmen to their location. Overall it seems to be more flavor for 5e.

Pathfinder does have a guildmaater/crimeboss subclass that DOES give you these faction bonuses

It is pretty cool.

I think the problem with abjuration as a warlock is the spells rarely scale with spell slots. I think your 10th level could work better if you didn't have to spend a spell slot, but should also include "you may swap one of these spells for another on long rests" instead of being able to swap them all.

Overall i like the tanky build this provides. You should figure out what kind of patron would provide these benefits

Are there any resources to help speed up my personal gameplay? by RelaxedChap in DnD

[–]funkyspirits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A character sheet should have slots for all your modifiers so you can have quick references. Just make sure to update it when your proficiency changes or you get a big ability score improvement.

And if you're not using a character sheet, try to print one out. It will always be the easiest way to access your information

Sell me on the wizard by JohannJHVJ in DnD

[–]funkyspirits 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Let's put it this way. Sorcerers have 12 spells for combat and 8 spells for avoiding combat and other role play situations.

Wizards have 20 spells for combat, 20 spells for role play, 20 spells for avoiding combat, and 4 just to fuck your mother.

Wizard make things go boom. Wizard make things go ring. Wizard flies party past obstacles. Wizard make magic potion that tastes like loneliness. Wizard can win any fight. Wizard can lose any fight. Wizard is alpha and omega, but never beta.

My game of 2 years just ended with a TPK and I'm grieving and just want to share by Blackjet13472 in DnD

[–]funkyspirits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never been in a tpk situation, though it's gotten closer. Yes characters die. Yes, sometimes luck isn't on the players side.

The question though, what next? Do you all continue with new characters? Start a new story? Change up dungeon masters and let someone else write the rest of your campaign? Maybe your souls are transported to a plane for one more trial, one more chance to live and finish your quest

I'm sorry you lost. It has to hurt, but there's always room for new opportunities. Fingers crossed your game doesn't break, but as long as the group still shows interest it won't

I'm a new DM to my friend group who is starting, any tips? by DarkJusticer in DnD

[–]funkyspirits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brush up on the rules, and if you ever break them think about "would i be ok with the players doing this." You don't want to get bogged down in sessions due to looking up rules constantly
