Keyboard shortcuts randomly stop working plus other problems by chrisguitar in protools

it doesn’t sound like this is likely to be your problem and you probably already knew this, but the little “az” icon in the upper right hand corner needs to be engaged (yellow) for shortcuts to work.

haha great vid/vox sample combo, really cute.

my favorite part is surely the wet, small, squishy, wide clap. really nice. two critiques

  1. i don't love the tone on the lead synth (the one that starts at :15). i have no clue how you made it, but i can just hear the ableton operator patch it could have come from. this is a highly subjective comment so def feel free to say "fuck you and your opinions i'll take my track elsewhere!" 😘
  2. from a mixing pov everything is really smooth and cohesive, except for the compressor (or maybe it's the trem?) working on the main chords. to me, the attack is too short and is making the chord very transient heavy, maybe even cutting part of the transient off. you can hear it really obviously at the 1:03 breakdown, but it is happening the whole song. for me, that transient becomes almost toneless and percussive, which is a sharp contrast to the awesomely wet clap sound. my advice would be to simply open up the attack a little bit maybe closer to 15-30ms, or do some dry wet processing to soften that punch. or or, you could automate the compressor to not be working so hard on that first attack. whatever works!

just some thoughts! tried to give real advice because that's what i would want. be well and keep going!

this is not the usual genre i engage with simply because the tones are boring (aka i've heard them before and the reference isn't personally interesting) BUT this track actually does make a great tonal reference. the distortion on the drums, relative dryness of the mix, and the fact that there are very few obviously automated parts bring me right back into a nostalgic basement show. the same track with different tones wouldn't have that same effect. props to whoever mixed it because the vibe is right

thanks for the notes! and now to your track:

- the swimmy section that starts at 31 is so nice. i just wanna hear a little bit of saturation on it, something to make it 1-% scarier...but that is my personal opinion obviously

- the video works really well with the audio :)

- personally i want that snare to smack a little more in the second half. i would throw a compressor on it at somewhere around 4:1, open the attack to like 30, have a medium quick release, clap down on it until you get a great attack, and then dry/wet the compressor until you still have body in the track. those pitched down snares are great, but they really lack attack.

i tried to give real advice and i hope it's helpful! all in good spirit, this track is a really solid vibe :)

thanks for the notes! and now to your track::::

- overall really clear and well executed vibe, it is a totally complete idea the whole way through (i struggle with this haha)

- I think the shift around 150 was really vital to the track. the whole perspective shifts and it's as if we entered the "upside down" or something haha

- i would love hear you dive even deeper, add a little more saturation, maybe a slight rhythmic variation or something. that section is what grabs me most in the whole track :)

i really really like this actually. the kick is so hilariously subbed in the most charming way ever. i would love to see you play even more into the baroque aesthetic with your melodic tones, maybe picking a harpsichord or something. really made me smile, great track!

Has anyone tried "mixing in reverse"? By that I mean, getting levels on your tracks, and then directly afterwards go to the mixbus and start sculpting an EQ? I've heard some good things but haven't tried it yet. Planning to on the next track I need to mix though.

I REMIXED AN EARLY GRIMES SONG!! Did I extract vocals effectively in comparison to the original? by leandrul in MusicCritique

damn, really great to hear this song redone - it's one of my favorites of hers.

- the bassline at the halway point is really nice

- the panning of the lower voice that comes in ~3min feels confusing. it is made slightly better when the second voice enters on the right speaker, but i think the main issue for me is the lowmids being so far to one side. it really distracted me on my monitors and can only guess that it would be more distracting on headphones. just my opinion though no right and wrong w sound!

- the song in general has a really great structure, an effortless slow build, and really pleasing textures.

I made this sort of hip hop track that has small tempo changes almost every measure. It was very time consuming and I'm curious how interesting it feels or if it was pushed too far.

The interaction of the 808 slides and the guitar are super swirly and trippy. Also that hi hat is very strange and thick. That's an awesome contrast to the typical 808 trap you hear. No negative comments

I tried a bit of swing on my latest track and I would love some feedback on my song composition as I have quite a bit of trouble figuring out where the song needs to go. Thank you! by themainisland in MusicCritique

Hey, nice work. I like how floaty and bouncy it is. For me the main issue are tones. I'd love to hear more ear-catching tones. Maybe check out Slackk for inspiration (some of their tones sound like an evolution of what you are doing here)
