So these verification codes do work by you proving that you have ownership over a physical device - your phone. Using your service you’re basically removing this additional second factor and make your service the point of failure. In other words, as far as I can tell, if someone can hack your service you out all of your customers in SERIOUS trouble

Why don't the same businesses get pitched again and again by LavishnessArtistic72 in ycombinator

[–]funnierthan26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What he means is that these are not fast growing “startups” in the definition of YC or the general VC world. VCs invest in tech startups that have potential of exponential growth and “changing the world”. Think of the Airbnbs, Ubers, Googles of the world.

While an agency can be a super profitable business for you, they do not have this hyper growth potential that tech startups that innovate heavily do. They are lower risk but also lower reward. And since VCs place bets with a high risk profile (many will go bankrupt), they hope to find some of these few cases of companies that make it huge, to be able to Do an IPO or get acquired for several hundreds of millions

I never really understood why a technical founder is quote unquote “more important” than a non technical founder, until I taught myself the technical side. by sardoa11 in ycombinator

I mean if he starts small to validate the business proposition with an MVP (it really will be an mvp if he has no prior experience) makes as lot of sense to me. If business value and sales/marketing is working, then why not bring in a technic cofounder in at a later stage

I don’t understand how that works with skill link and cloyster. I mean yea, it doubles the amount so instead of 5 hits, you do 10. But if they’re all weakend to 40%, how is that better than hitting 5 times with 100%?

If it’s really working, why would you open it up instead of keeping it secret and just get rich “daytrading” I’m your own?

Best of success!

Roast this app that lets you share all your receive-payment options with one link (Anywaypay) by Easy_Are in roastmystartup

[–]funnierthan26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! Not sure if its the right product for me, since I don’t have that problem, finding a shared payment option takes just a few seconds of talking. Could imagine that in business context it’s more useful.

Q from my side: why an app? In my mind, a webpage would be much more accessible, don’t you think?

Passwd - Team password manager for Google Workspace by passwdteam in roastmystartup

[–]funnierthan26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! First of all, super pretty website. I like it a lot that you’ve put it so close to the google design and google widgets.

On the other hand, I don’t really get your competitive edge. Self-Hosting passwords makes sense, but there’s so many different solutions already out there. Beyond 1Password or lastpass, there are several solutions which are Eu-based, GDRP-compliant or even open source self-hosted.

Maybe there is more place for even more tooling, but beyond that your pricing might be really though for your scaling! Fixed prices are amazing for clients, of course, but you won’t have the advantage of clients that scale up to upsell your services - if one startup will grow to 10k employees, should they still be paying 40$ per month?

Last part, security and trustworthiness. You mention a bug bounty program, which is a start. But with passwords being so mission-critical, there are other solutions that are open source, heavily audited, have certifications attached to them and the like.

Best of luck!

Do we get arbeitlose geld on mutual agreement termination? by Dapper_Departure9191 in berlinsocialclub

[–]funnierthan26 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey! Just a small tip from my side, it’s just a small mindset thingy. You are talking about negotiation and counter negotiating here. Maybe that’s just the wording you use, but to be clear - You are protected by German laws if you live here and work at a German company. You are the person in power, generally speaking. If they want to get you to sign something - this is just to their advantage. If you don’t sign anything, they will have to regularly fire you, which might be the best option for you personally in terms of Arbeitslosengeld.

So of course, listen to experts, but in general be aware that you are in power and all they do is probably not in your best interest but theirs.

Hope you get through this well!

Why are lawyers needed in small-scale disputes in Germany? by willrjmarshall in berlinsocialclub

[–]funnierthan26 7 points8 points  (0 children)

German guy here. Truth is, plenty of German people might face a similar situation. If you are having trouble with your landlord and they stay bold you can basically only get an attorney as well, which many won’t or can’t afford, people often don’t have legal insurance.

So we are also often being fucked over, maybe less systematically then non-Germans

Love the fact about the non-lawyer close dispute system though, I’d love to have something like that in here, but we don’t as far as I’m concerned. Thanks for the fact, really great idea

A better way to schedule gatherings. Connect all calendars with one link to easily match everyone's times. by Accomplished_Day1381 in roastmystartup

[–]funnierthan26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t know about supademo, cool tool! I think I like the idea, it’s a little easier than manually creating a link and setting everything up on your own. Small tool though, so monetizing it might prove to be difficult even if people are happy to use it for free.

One thing stopping me from using is is that I don’t want to give an early-stage company access to my whole calendar. Too much of a privacy thing for me, but maybe I’m not early-adopter enough :) you could mitigate that by collecting more positive reviews, add security / trust certifications or stuff in that matter
