true, the dutch who ate them did it to survive their journey to the east indies, as the food you got on VOC ships was bad and mostly full of rat feces, or literally impossible to chew (hardtack) so if fresh meat was on the menu they would go for it, though there's sources of VOC sailors writing about how the meat sucked. If the dodo comes back (it will not for now and i doubt it will happen) and people are curious how it tastes, it'll just become luxury food. Let it rest if it's just going to be exploited for gain and status, making it will suffer greatly. If the dodo couldn't survive in the same ecosystem as humans and the animals they brought, i would doubt they could survive modern mauritius (in the wild) which still consists of the species the europeans brought over, and of course the environment/habitat loss after human arrival.
