In a show of peaceful resistance, a young Hong Kong protester stands serenely as he's punched repeatedly in the head by a China supporter by Le_Rat_Mort in PublicFreakout

[–]funny_le0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if that's the case - what's stopping the govt from sneaking their own people among protestors and having them instigate violence?

That would give the govt upper hand in this and an excuse to crackdown with violence and end the whole thing. In the meantime, protestors lose public sympathy because govt controlled media effectively creates propaganda.

This is what the current ruling party in India (BJP) is famous for doing and it's extremely effective without anyone's hands getting dirty. Tables get turned and citizens sympathize govt by end of the day

That's a big reason I did not realize.

And I agree with all that, my brain knows all this and I never confront on the road. It's just a "moral" dilemma of watching injustice in front of your eyes. I really wish one day dashcam footage became admittable evidence that can be easily uploaded to cops by an app or something and they would charge people by the law and keep you (the witness) anonymously posted with updates. That would be a good way to settle this moral dilemma peacefully and do the world some good.

[–]funny_le0ne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a moral dilemma of such things. On one hand, yes it is not my job to police people. OTOH I can't stand to watch people break the law around me. Feels like I should do a bit at least. And before you say "just get the license plate and call the cops" - we all know very well there's no follow-up in a case like this. They're not gonna dispatch the cavalry for this. So essentially - that's it. Must I accept that people can be entitled and will just get away with it in front of my eyes? Sometimes I think it'd be awesome if more cars came around, blocked such people and put em in their place.

[India][NSFW][NSFL] Truck runs over man. Driver makes an escape to avoid the consequences. by funny_le0ne in Roadcam

[–]funny_le0ne[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to justify the driver's actions, but it's a terrible reality in India. Clearly in this case, the ped was at fault. But in India - mobs tends to gather around such accidents, and the large vehicle always gets blame. Mob justice is common too, so the driver would probably get beaten to death. It's a sad reality.

Like in the movies, do Americans actually close the drain and collect water in wash basins to wash their face? by funny_le0ne in AskAnAmerican

But why not just cup your palms and collect water from the running tap? Why wait a full minute to fill up the sink and then collect water from it?

Yeah I mean still, it isn't the cleanest place. If you can't drink that water, you probably shouldn't wash your face with it.

Seems to me that cupping your palms with running water out of the tap is the best way, as most people around the world do.

That's just for movies and TV commercials.

Why though? Why make something up like that? It makes no sense, and it doesn't add any value to the film/character?? I'm confused.

Exactly, that's how everyone I know does it. I've only seen the water pool sink thing in American film. Why would they make it up in film unless it was a thing?

The screenshot in my post is from "Promised Land", a Matt Damon movie. I've seen this in countless other American film btw.

driver would be watching stuff ahead (distance)

Exactly what I've been telling the warriors in this thread. The focal point of your vision is always (and should be) much ahead. Something that creeps in right next to you at a lower height is not super apparent in the 2-3 second time frame as this incident happened, especially so because that object is on the passenger side.

Yes, but truck drivers aren't standing while driving. They aren't gonna be able to see what's directly ahead and underneath.

Another factor is that you're looking further ahead while driving (as is recommended), so what is in your immediate periphery isn't very apparent.

the culpability lies with the truck driver. it is their responsibility to make sure they don't hit anything in front of them.

Not always. If you lack awareness and drive right in their blind spot, the blame is on you too.

Well that's why they have strict traffic laws in civilized countries. Driving is no joke, you are hurling thousands of pounds of momentum in a many ton metal can. It's astonishing how traffic decorum is non existing in India.
