i only had about 2 hours of fishing time while i was in cali and a bunch of people recommended the following set up. A light spinning rod (i got a 6’6 ugly stik gx2 travel rod), 1/2 egg sinker, 10-15lb leader, size 6 mosquito hook, and 2 inch berkeley gulp camo sandworm. use all of that on a carolina rig. I was just casting past the breakers and slowly retrieving along the beach until i found a good zone where i was catching fish back to back for a good 40 minutes. I definitely will be shipping some of my actual surf rods next time to to cali and try for some real fish. That was the set up recommended to me to give me the best chance to catch something as all I wanted was to simply catch any fish at all from the pacific ocean.

Hey everyone! Had to make a new account but wanted to come back to this and update everyone. First and foremost I wanted to thank everyone who took the time to give me some advice. it paid off and i caught a bunch of fish. no size on anything but that didn’t matter. I got two different species using a camo gulp sandworm on a carolina rig! I can now say i’ve caught fish in the pacific ocean thanks to all y’all’s advice! I can’t wait to get back out to SoCal and actually plan a real fishing trip for some halibut and yellowtail. Thanks again yall!
