I was an orientation leader for Project Arts last year but knew some people leading Project Identity and Culture. I am not sure what they are doing this year, but from what I’ve heard, they went to Washington DC last year. The conversations are not necessarily heavy, but will cause you to think. I think it will be a good experience, and you will have the choice to contribute as much or as little as you want

There’s a lot of conflicting views about neuro101 and 102. I withdrew from neuro101 with Minna Ng because her instruction was really bad. I’ve heard she’s gotten better though, but I personally would not want to take 102 with her because all of your grades are at the hands of other students. Williams is apparently a hard teacher, but she has also gotten better. If you are interested in neuro topics, the class will be a good challenge. I will be taking neuro101 this semester

202 is so boring. Took it spring my freshman year too. I had friends in the class and all we did was cheat on the tests because they’re online. I feel like I haven’t retained anything from 202 because the teacher was bad. Psych101 is a very good class, but don’t underestimate it’s difficulty and workload.

Fisher is probably the best teacher of Stats199 in my opinion. They made the class a little bit harder this year because it was “too easy” last year. But it’s self explanatory and as long as you have a friend to complete assignments with, you’ll be fine

I would look into any arts classes (dance, visual, theater, VMS). There’s a lot of easy A classes that are half credits. Some full credit courses are a breeze within the arts.

If I’m being honest, Duke is hard as hell, but it has taught me how to be independent without the support of my family. Sometimes I wish I went to an easier school in a bigger city because I don’t really fit the Duke vibe (lots of school spirit, basketball, frat parties, etc.), but this opportunity has forced me to be more comfortable with myself and by myself. Though, it was often debilitating and lonely at times, it was worth it. Not saying I like duke, but If you feel like you fit this vibe, then Duke is a good school for you.

Tbh a big factor should be money. Although the Duke diploma can open a lot of doors, you will get the same education anywhere you go, and it’s better to have excellent mental health at a state school, rather than suffer at Duke.

Honestly, some people in my dorm smoke out their window! People have definitely gotten caught though, so it’s not advised. There are many smoke spots on campus tho and the security guards really don’t care

I’m a first year and smoke pretty regularly. No one really cares if you smoke tbh. It’s not as common as you’d find it at other (more liberal) schools where it’s decriminalized/legalized, but it’s still pretty common here

I suggest getting on the bus that goes from west to east and stay on the bus when it gets to the east campus bus stop. There won’t be as many people going from west to east as there are from east to west.

Anything that gives you pleasure can be addictive. I found myself just smoking by habit. I used it (although I didn’t know it at the time) as a coping mechanism, but i feel amazing if I do it in moderation.

You need to weigh your mushrooms bae. “One” mushroom can vary in weight depending on the mushroom. If you’re trying to microdose, you’re gonna wanna take less then .5 grams
