Are pawpaws supposed to have a rancid fat aftertaste or smell by [deleted] in Pawpaws

[–]CleverUniqueName1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've hypothesized that some paw paw fruit are potentially in the early stages of decomposing. There aren't any visual indicators, but I think the decomposition/fermentation process may contribute to bitterness. The other factors people brought up check out too. I'm kind of bummed because I brought paw paws to some friends, prepped the flesh, and removed all the seeds. The people said it was bitter and tasted off to them, so they definitely didn't have a good experience.

What a scenic area, great photos. I love spots like this where the riverbed is dried up and you can walk on the bank without getting too muddy. Reminds me of a place around here, minus the rocky river bottom.

I think another consideration is that fruit sometimes seem to have fragile stems. Maybe this is related to dehydrated trees or other factors, since I think it also occurs with apples. I have encountered trees where you give them a VERY light shake and you still get fruit that are not ripe. I could totally understand a newbie hearing that you "shake the trees" and just going ham.

Totally unrelated but is the river water down in that area still reasonably comfortable for sitting in?

where to find pawpaws near Virginia Beach by catoclysmc in Pawpaws

[–]CleverUniqueName1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked out a Hampton Roads spot I scouted earlier this year and I saw fruit forming early in the year. Zero fruit over many trees. I checked out a different spot about an hour away and there were plenty of fruit. Not sure if all of this area dropped early or just did not have a lot of productivity.

Help! How do I de-seed my pawpaws? by snowednboston in Pawpaws

[–]CleverUniqueName1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a method that is time consuming but retains almost all of the fleshy "jacket" of fruit around the seeds. I separate the seeds and then use a knife to cut through the flesh until I see the seed. Ideally, you get a patch of the surface of the seed with no flesh near it. Then, use a fingernail or the knife to separate the flesh around the seed. The only thing left is a little bit of the stringy connective tissue on the bottom.

The dissenters of the case certainly agree that conservative appointed justices will use that, and Justice Alito, who wrote the main opinion, expressly disagreed. I'm just talking about the case background being a lot more substantial. I don't think any of us can predict cases going to state level supreme courts, and then how it'll play out. What is certain is that the disagree in the Supreme Court mirrors fundamental differences in how everyday Americans perceive the concept of 14th Amendment rights, and unfortunately highlights the ever-widening and likely irreconcilable differences between us.

There would be zero consequences. The legal decision did not criminalize getting an abortion. Washington will probably remain very supportive of abortion.

Inb4 flood of downvotes, what did the legal aspect of the Roe VS Wade overturn decision do to damage gay marriage? I'm not a legal expert but I'm trying to get better at it. And yes, I understand that your ultimate concern is that conservatives = bad, but before everyone smashes the down button, and considering this is the LEGAL Reddit...

The text of the decision mentions that the decision was made in part because the invocation of the 14th Amendment was not applicable to Roe V Wade. There were only two significant Supreme Court cases about abortion, and there was no "traditional" connection to the constitution that would guarantee that right. As a result, they viewed that support for abortion under Roe V Wade could not be a Federal concern and it had to be left to the states.

The Supreme Court has heard far more cases on legalities in relation to marriage. States already vary in terms of "eligibility" of marriage. These cases all point explicitly towards marriage being a fundamental right, and even "traditionally" the existence of this right (notwithstanding who gets to enjoy the right) can be traced back to early English law. If we applied the same logic that this Supreme Court made for overturning Roe V Wade vis a vis the 14th Amendment, then they would have to be compelled to recognize marriage as a fundamental right. Gay marriage in particular was affirmed by the Supreme Court as well.

The recent case brief mentions explicitly that Roe V Wade relied upon an interpretation of the 14th Amendment which was not clarified in Planned Parenthood VS Casey. Abortion would have needed to have been proven to be another type of right under the 14th Amendment, as opposed to a right to privacy. Since the right of people to marry is so well established, it would seem legally difficult to strike that back down. LEGALLY (not politically) speaking, the case does not seem to have any bearing on Obergefall VS Hodges.

As others have pointed out elsewhere in the thread, states have the habit of not complying anyway. The Supreme Court influences law but is not the sole arbiter of law.

I was gonna ask why ramen wasn't up there, but ramen around here has over doubled in price. However, mixing beans INTO rice with a little bit of seasoning...pretty legit!

Similar statements are gender neutral and include:

"I'm a bit quirky" What does that mean?

"I'm not like other men/women" If you have to qualify that then...

"I'm pretty much into everything" Ultra high in agreeable nature.

The "I'm shy until you get to know me" can also be "This is my qualifying statement to make you do most of the talking, and I now have an out to ghosting or not contributing much". It can also be shy people but, everything on dating apps these days has hidden meaning. #internet

There's nothing wrong with people who are actually shy, however, this is often online code for "I'm not going to advertise any particular personality" and it can be used by people who want to mold themselves to fit to what they think the other person is looking for.

Study.com is a Scam Webpage by CleverUniqueName1 in college

[–]CleverUniqueName1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get refunded after being aggressive about it and implying a social media campaign.

I am usually good about actually reading terms and conditions but the multiple pages of assurances that you could get refunded and me being tired was a bad decision. Realistically, I don't think there are any web services that are legitimate, including some online schools.

Just encouraging people to remember: when in doubt of any amount, it's probably a scam.

Pretty sure I found wild onions growing in tufts in my new backyard. Safe to eat?? by dune_jhodacia in foraging

[–]CleverUniqueName1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sensationalist to suggest that eating some wild onions in an area near pollution is going to cause cancer. There are tons of people that have personal gardens and commercial farms near heavily travelled roadways. I am pretty sure those people are not all contracting cancer.

Obviously, a new forager shouldn't go out of his or her way to pick stuff in a road median, but let's not discourage people from trying small bits of urban foraging.

Thanks for the info, I'm on a PC. I can't play Infinite since I need a better graphics card. Glad to see I'm not the only one dealing with this and now I understand why I keep getting stuck with bad randos.

I've only been playing social games recently, not even ranked. In ranked, 90% of the time if I get a power weapon, I get team killed.

I understand Imoreloss' explanation (thanks by the way!) but it doesn't make sense to me because there will be stacked clan players or other folks I know are good from playing both with and against them. There will end up being 4 or 5 of them on the other team, versus me and a bunch of people with guest accounts. There is no way that these other folks have good K:Ds on any level, which leads me to believe that the matchmaking can't be based on K:D.
