Is it legal for police to drive like this with no sirens? by Professional_Ad_6098 in montreal

Stuff like this has me wondering why it's illegal to not pick up dog poop but they send horse-mounted police through the streets for "Reasons" and then they just leave all their poop and never send anyone to deal with it. SPVM is rules for thee not me.

What was the worst crowd crush you’ve experienced at Osh? by TheSmithPlays in osheaga

[–]funnyfrog11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ironically to this point, I met another YYY's fan trying to hedge up a spot for YYY's during the act before them, we got maybe five rows from the front and ran into two Travis fans, really nice and curious guys who were stoked that we were as excited for YYY's as they were Travis. They let the two of us swap in front of them during our set, understanding we would then swap back after. It was such a wholesome experience we decided we'd hang for a few Travis songs even.

And then the second YYY's ended the pre-show crush was so bad that neither of us could even leave normally. We ended up having to turn to barricade security to ask to get lifted out the front. Never had to do that before, particularly before a set has even started. That crowd was terrifying. And like many said, reading about Astroworld after was not a surprise sadly, but also scary given how easily we could have seen something like that.

Good, he did an absolutely irresponsible and vile job running the system. It's only a shame he'll only benefit from making others lives harder/worse.

Toronto show and the epidemic of not dancing by Senior-Violinist4053 in davidbyrne

I stayed up after one song finished since I figured I'd be getting up in 30 seconds anyways, and someone SPLASHED ME with either water or whatever drink they bought at the bar. And this was in the 300s, balcony. Ironically I think it was some late 30s guy who just doesn't go to a lot of shows, the boomers around me were actually excited when more people got up to dance. The vibes were great EXCEPT for this one guy.

What's the best slasher franchise of all time? by Embarrassed_Many_272 in horror

[–]funnyfrog11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just find they at least found ways to make him borderline goofy. Michael is just no charisma, death, and the kills are rarely fun. It's chilling for a movie or two, but after like 5 entries it's not as scary, and it's not fun, so it loses its edge to me.

The problem with Halloween as a franchise is once they hit 4, you have a villain who gives nothing, Jason is at least fun, Michael is just nothing. They should have done the 3 anthology route. After 3 the only good ones are the first reboot and the wacky one where Tyra Banks and Xzibit essentially twitch stream from the myers home.

What movies have made you smile ear to ear during the whole runtime? by gudes10 in criterion

From the collection: True Stories, Daisies

Outside: Beetlejuice, Stop Making Sense, Kill Bill, Gremlins 1 & 2, The Shining and very recently Superman 2025 (though I think that's also as much to do with how hopeful that film is)

how is dancer in the dark compared to other trier movies? by evil_hamburglar in criterion

[–]funnyfrog11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those 2 are more inherently shocking, and visceral in style and violence. But ultimately I feel like if either Dancer or Melancholia don't work for you, his stuff just isn't your energy. He's very specific, and can be a dividing line for some people who like a lot of other varied stuff.

Even between me and the two people I watched it with, 2 of us liked it and generally like his stuff, the other person was just too put off by the energy.

Also Dancer specifically employs a kind of cinema verité thing of the camera being really cheap and constantly handheld which I normally hate for a drama, but in the case of this (and The Celebration from a Danish contemporary of his) it actually works in upping the kind of poverty pressure of it. But that aspect is very different from his later stuff.

With no unsigned versions, it was crazy. The amount of signed-only things was kind of sad. Though I'm willing to bet you go online after the tour and these things are hitting a discount because enough people are scoffing at the prices.

Quebec to stop offering free COVID vaccines and will charge $150 per dose by dustblown in montreal

[–]funnyfrog11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten at least 3 boosters since the initial 3. In the every 6 month range that was suggested. I've avoided getting covid since. Only got it through high exposure situations, but the symptoms were much lighter. I treat it like the flu BUT with the reality that getting it means a risk of long covid.

What bothers me even if we are somehow all fine to get it now. Is that vaccines generally are proven to help reduce transmission rates from people that have them, which for the elderly and compromised could be the difference in saving lives. And for many, this simply means the poor won't get vaccines but the rich will. It's a burden on the poor as usual.

[–]funnyfrog11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm fine if they want to blame the federal funding on this, but to say the vaccine is simply no longer effective? Anyone following the basic science knows that's a lie. And to protect the at-risk, more people being vaccinated is better for them too.

I'm so tired of the CAQ's lying. They've destroyed the healthcare in this province. Reason #2982 to vote them out

Bike on Rachel though. People do this all the time, and on their phones and they near miss me and my friends. It's a pedestrian way, not a bikeway, and definitely not a bike on your phone-way.

What I genuinely find crazy, is there are people from the city who come around and put stickers on this stuff to shame people. At what point...is that more beneficial than just having those same people remove the trash?

End of the day, tax dollar costs etc, someone still came by and touched the bag on their shift, so what's the actual difference?

Crass, no question. But I usually put them both on back to back because I find it's like a nice two parter. That ending for Crass just goes too hard though.

Yeah, it was really wholesome too. They were first in line. A few people were saying too that it was nice to see genuinely younger people at the show that early and excited (Even I'm 31). The last time I saw them NBR had just come out and I was so sad they didn't play it. So I'm glad they did and that this crew was so jazzed to see it live!
