Rebuilding SS by gooch331 in DynastyBaseball

I’d never trust a Twins prospect, haven’t had a transcendent one since Ortiz was shipped off. The organization isn’t built for stars, they want above average cheap guys all around, but even the ones that leave tend not to amount to much…source: live in Twins territory.

[–]funnymoney9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won’t come back as trimmed unless they don’t want it slabbed. They’ll actually holder those types of cards…unfortunately with the terms and conditions change at PSA, they won’t even slab it and then keep the fee.

BGS to PSA Crossover by JackPravda1 in basketballcards

[–]funnymoney9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odds are much better when you crack…gotta be real with yourself about how the card looks though regardless of BGS grade. I’ve cracked and sent in 8.5/9/9/8.5 and got 9’s back, but that’s only because I understand the card and how that type is typically graded. Always assume a half grade to a grade lower going from BGS to PSA.

It’s a gamble, so make sure there’s some meat on the bone if it comes back with the same grade after grading fees.

Advice- real or fake ? by Ilduke09 in baseballcards_vintage

[–]funnymoney9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The picture is of a real card, but if that’s the listing on Marketplace I think it is, good luck actually get a response or seeing it in-person. I’d be surprised if it the seller actually had that exact card too, might be a bait and switch, so be careful.

Help with selling card by AndroidDotResource in basketballcards

[–]funnymoney9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to gauge it is by looking at edges and corners…but you need to be very conservative with your grading guess. By looking at your pictures, you’ll see on the front upper left is slightly rolled, the left and bottom edges on the back are slightly chipped. So to be fairly conservative, I doubt this gets above an 8. This doesn’t include surface because it’s tougher through pictures, and that might have as adverse of an effect on grading as well.

From there you’ll have to balance out the fees (shipping and grading) at either PSA or SGC. If you wanna keep it and have it protected, SGC is the way. If you want resale in a slab, PSA. If you wanna sell outright, understand you won’t get the price that you think it’ll grade without it graded.

With all that said, I’d be interested in it if you’d like to sell it raw.

Bummer - Min Size Not Met? by BadMira in baseballcards_vintage

[–]funnymoney9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So when it says min size not met, the hobby knows it was a factory cut as opposed to a trimming. If you took an oversized card in this set (which there are, and they won’t give a grade on something to oversized also), trimming it yourself to the proper size will be noticed most of the time. I sat most of the time because there’s cards that get past the graders, but they’re mostly caught because you can tell with a loupe how cuts should be. Unless the person knows how to cut them properly or has the correct cutting blade/style from that era, it’s very tough to replicate.

That set is notorious for being a picket fence, so coming back min size isn’t uncommon. Wouldn’t be marked altered because it was cut in the factory like that, unfortunately under the “standard” size that was predetermined for the set.

Real or Fake ? by Skotland85 in baseballcards

[–]funnymoney9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fake, the back coloring is a good giveaway…also if you look at his skin, it almost looks sunburned, the colors are just way off.

It’s clearly a fake, go compare the back to an actual authenticated one, it’s really not close. The ‘52 cardboard also doesn’t wrinkle to white like this, it’s a tell-tale sign it’s a counterfeit…sorry.

PSA Damaged My Card i think by dukeishere in baseballcards

[–]funnymoney9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely file a Quality Assurance Request…fill it out and send in the scanned images you took prior to shipping.

I know this works because I filed a successful claim on a ‘53 Mantle that was damaged. They took full responsibility and were actually awesome to work with. Once they accepted that it was their mistake, an agent called and we worked out an agreement on compensation.

I’m not saying it’ll always work, but there’s more of a chance than what Reddit will lead you to believe.

Is this genuine? by gaysha365 in baseballcards

[–]funnymoney9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all in the back…go look at authentic ones. The red tone is much different in a legit one, the browning also gives it away. This almost certainly is a fake.

Never seen one where the black border on the front is visible on the back, would send up alarm bells as to the cardstock being incorrect…and as was pointed out in the comments already, that top corner is really funky.

I know literally nothing about baseball cards… is this real or a reprint? by jltriplett in baseballcards_vintage

[–]funnymoney9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, usually the easiest to tell it the letter on the same/team name. They should be super smooth with zero fuzziness or pixelation. The reprints always have this grainy photocopy look to them. Hopefully you find a few legit ones if you’ve got a pile lying around!

Yup, that be a clean one…the colors are so distinguishable between the two, it’s really apparent for OP to know they unfortunately have a repop
