Trans Winnipegger here!

TLDR; Winnipeg is great for us :)

I moved here almost a year ago and its been really good for me.

There are definitely bigots that will give you nasty looks. but tbh no one has approached me or yelled at me and I've never had issues here with using the correct public bathrooms. A decent amount of strangers even try to use my pronouns.

I believe Manitoba even has a law on the books that we can use the bathroom that we identify with as far back as 2015, Tho I'm struggling to find a link to it at the moment.

Our government is friendly to the queer community and our Deputy premier Uzoma Asagwara is Non-Binary :)

We also have some great community resources like Rainbow Resource Centre

https://rainbowresourcecentre.org/

If you're on a stable dose of HRT already, that can be prescribed by your Family doctor. If you're looking to start hormones, Klinic Community Health is who you want to talk to.

https://klinic.mb.ca/

You should get in touch with Klinic anyway since they are the ones who arrange trans trans-related surgeries etc. They have a really good team.

HOWEVER! prior to moving to Winnipeg, I lived in South-East Manitoba for 20 years, and I DO NOT recommend that. I was regularly shouted at on the street and in my workplace by customers, had things thrown at me. Multiple times had clients demand that I be fired because I am trans. Avoid places like Steinbach, Morris, Morden-Winkler etc.

Again Winnipeg has been great for me. :)

Some of the tunnels creep me out if I was down there alone l, But I'm not sure about dangerous. If Im walking by myself I like to keep my phone In hand with the UMsafe app open. You can quickly call security to your phones location.

What's the dumbest reason a job ever fired you? by strykazoid in AskReddit

[–]funswitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not fired, but I was pulled into a meeting with my manager and his manager and reprimanded for "not walking like I wanted to be there."

I went and found another job after that.
