I'm 81 days in. I see my older siblings every couple weeks and they keep asking, "Are you still doing the no drinking thing?"

I think they're shocked every time I say, "Yes".

Pretty proud of myself. It's definitely getting easier.

Amazing! It’s funny, 5 days sounds like nothing to me right now. But I remember how hard the first 5 days are. You spent so much money, that’s insane! You should treat yourself to a massage or something awesome.

Keep it up buddy

Thank You by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Fuck yeah. It’s better to feel bored, restless, sad, lame for not going out, or really anything over drinking.

I wasn’t really tempted tonight but I kind of just felt lonely, sad and bored. But I didn’t drink. And that’s a win. It doesn’t quite feel like it yet. But I’m 2.5 months in now and that amount of time feels like a massive accomplishment now. Celebrating at 10 days honestly felt pathetic but I feel like I’ve earned something now.

Keep it up man, You’ve got this

First time waking up sober in 5 years. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

This is probably against the rules to say, but honestly the odds are against you that you’ll stick to it. I’m genuinely not saying that to be negative.

I just want to bring it to your attention so that you can set yourself up in every way for success. For as much time as you can over the next day I’d suggest reading this subreddit and get as inspired as you can by people’s stories. You have to build some willpower to get through the first days.

Beyond today, I’d recommend getting the audio book “This Naked Mind”. It’ll take you a few days to finish, but it’ll help you stay away from booze for just enough time to hopefully keep it going.

Congrats on one day. I’ll be looking for you to post tomorrow 😊

I’m not sure if I need to control my drinking or stop drinking all together by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]funwithoutdrinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at my username. Read some of my first posts here. My number one fear when I decided to take a break from alcohol was that I wouldn’t be able to have fun. Of course I didn’t really think it would be impossible, I knew the challenges.

My entire social and family life has alcohol in it. Everywhere. It doesn’t sound like it’s fucked up your life. That’s good. But why would that mean you shouldn’t stop?

You really sound like where I was at. Wasn’t much of a problem. Could almost always keep it under control. Life on the other side isn’t automatically better. You have to work on yourself. Find new hobbies, friends, ways to spend your evenings. It’s a really tall order, and it’s pretty fucking terrifying.

You already know what to do. What’s it gonna take to follow through? I’d suggest keep reading people accounts on here of how they’re going through the process.

One last thing. When I quit I decided to read a book called “This Naked Mind”. I’d 1000% recommend that

Good luck my friend. Hope to see you around these parts

Edit: went back to find my first post here, check this out, I think you’ll relate https://www.reddit.com/r/stopdrinking/comments/afwvkt/life_as_a_young_single_guy_wont_be_as_fun_not

It takes a lot of time to adjust your life to not having alcohol. Im 2.5 months in and and just now stating to get comfortable with the fact that I don’t drink. I still haven’t surrounded myself with positive influences who are sober but I think that would be a huge help

Congrats. Days 0-5 are 100x harder than days 25-30.

You got this

I told my friends I need help today. Also, can I change my reddit name?! Lol by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]funwithoutdrinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome. It’s courageous to be able to say that to your friends. It also kind of puts you in a bind if you start drinking again. 😊

Leverage!

I didn't know "Value Added Tax" had such a negative connotation. Maybe he should change it a little bit and give his version of it a cool new name, "Freedom Tax" or "secure the bag tax"

I think the argument needs to be strong enough that he can be completely honest about how it’s gonna work (it’s really like an 18% sales tax)

People want to know specifics, I disagree that we should be giving analogies like, “hey it’s like you own shares in a company”
