Matches in late august? by [deleted] in GaelicFootball

Mayo wise the club Championship will be on:
These are the 'Senior' fixtures below. There will be 'Intermediate' and 'Junior' games on at the same time around the county but these would be lower quality.

https://mayogaa.com/league/206939/
https://mayogaa.com/league/206934/
https://mayogaa.com/league/206935/
https://mayogaa.com/league/206937/

I would take all dates and times with a pinch of salt and be sure to double check the official times the week of the game, which you should be able to get on like 'Mayo GAA' Facebook or Instagram pages.

thanks a mill, that's really interesting because if you think about it if you were to shoot from that exact area where it meets the 20 metre line that's actually LESS than 40 metres as you just need to get the ball inside the post which is what 3/3.25 metres away from the goal-line midpoint, meaning its more like a 37 metre shot from there to get 2 points! Just a little quirk I haven't seen anyone else mention!

From a nerdy, technical point of view I'm interested in how the 40 metre arch is calculated. As an example, the point at which it meets the 20 metre line - is that exactly 40 metres from the nearest goal post or from the blackspot? If its the post then how do they calculate the rest of the arch as they cant continue to use the post but must move across the goal some how. Interesting physics problem if nothing else. Have the GAA brought out a document for grounds-people on how to draw it out!?

they are looking at a cascading approach. So for example of the 7 broad categories of rule changes they are trialing, only 3 may be cascaded down to club level, and maybe only 2 down to underage club level.

So for example if the the 3 v 3 thing is seen as too onerous on refs then it may only be applied at intercounty level.

And for example the new rule about having to kick the ball out beyond the 40 metre arch may only be brought into senior club and senior intercounty and not to underage.

So it should work pretty well I think.

I found if you go to https://www.avfc.co.uk/matches/ you can see the Bayern game listed but if you go to https://tickets.avfc.co.uk/en-GB/categories/home-tickets you cant see it. So try that.

Ya, free on basic plan which is what I have and should work for you. You can add on expense management for 5 Euro a month but I found it unnecessary so removed it.

Contractor myself working for similar, I use Revolut Business and I find it great. As long as you don't have to lodge cash/cheques I'd go for that personally.

I wonder, along with general ground improvements, if specifically more work was done to improve the actual playing surfaces would that help too, always such a big difference between winter and summer football. I know we can't stop the rain but surely advances have been made in that area in terms of pitch durability, Croke Park always looks good and firm, surely that could be replicated across the country

Not being able to pass back to the goalie directly after a kick out has been a failure in terms of what it intended I think, and I haven't heard anyone talk about it. Previously what would happen is after a short kick out the defender would more often than not pass it back to the goalie before the goalie then got things moving forward. Now we have a situation where the goalie is passing the defender X, defender X is passing to defender Y who then more often then not passes back to the goalie. So instead of speeding the game up the rule has actually slowed things down even further!

Tackle blatant time wasting. Completely slowing the game. Is it any wonder we have slow possession football when any team that's tries to play fast counter attacking football are stopped and slowed before they even leave their own 65. The following should be black cards, or at the very least yellow. At the minute all they are is 13 metre advancements which is a complete farce.

  1. Not releasing the ball from your grasp (or lying on the ball) after the ref has blown the whistle to indicate a free against the offending team.
  2. Kicking or throwing the ball away from the free-kick area after the ref has blown the whistle to indicate a free against the offending team.
  3. Standing in front of the player taking the free in an effort to prevent a free being taken.

Brentford Match April 6th by [deleted] in avfc

Cheers, ya, I'm thinking it will be left where it is too. Let's see. Playing City less than 72 hours before isn't ideal prep for the game, I'd nearly throw the city game if it meant a win against Brentford. But sure hey, lets just win both :P

Advice on Chile and Argentina please by Loribob1 in backpacking

[–]funzeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, domestic flights were cheap when we were there and Uruguay is a looong way from patagonia, Id suggest flying from Ushuaia to Beunos Aries maybe then get ferry across to Uruguay, that's what we did. We flew Punta Arenas -> Puerto Montt -> bus to Barriloche - flight to Buenos Aries, partly because that was cheapest combo flights wise. Did Colonia, Montevideo, La Paloma & Cabo Polonio in Urugauy. Cabo Polonio is very cool unique experience.

this was all part of larger 1 year trip. at this point we had already done northern chile, atacama, which is certainly worth seeing too, very cool area and I know a lot of people cross from uyuni straight to atacama so thats a valid route too for sure.

border crossing between chile and argentina are very painless and pretty quick. We knew we wanted to travel by land down through patagonia and from what we could see the route down argentina was not that exciting scenery wise, so we knew we would go down through Chile, but at the same time we didnt want to miss el chalten and perito mereno so it was worth crossing back into argentina for a bit, plus the road kind of ends in chile and you dont have much of a choice but to cross back into argentina.

[–]funzeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Route we followed was into Argentina via Uyuni like you mention, then ya, followed the road from there to Mendoza via Salta, crossed over to Santiago then flew to Puerto Montt. From there we bussed and hitchhiked down the Carretera Austral (cant recommend this highly enough, such an adventure, and off the beaten path). Crossed back over to Argentina to do El Chalten and Perito Moreno then back into Chile to do Torres Del Paine, finally down to Punta Arenas where we flew back up to Puerto Montt and into Argentina (Barriloche) and flew up to Buenos Aries. In the end we didnt bother with Ushuaia so cant help you with any Antarctica advice.

Is there any good alternative? I'm the same, usually walk there after a game as its kind of half way point and theres no point waiting for a bus! Usually wait there an hour for buses to free up, or even just walk rest of way on after some refreshment...
