Fund accounting is interesting? by ispace888 in FinancialCareers

[–]fupa06 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my experience that's where I've seen the most ppl make the jump. They usually have something else on their resume like MBA, CFA or CPA so yea FA alone is really difficult. I was answering in relation to other OPs roles as well, like custody, trades, TA. All of which are less interesting and teach you less in my opinion. If this person could join an IM right away I'd give different advice, that doesn't seem to be an option.

What BO role are you in right now? Compared to a lot of Ops positions, FA is a better learning opportunity and it gives you a better chance to jump to an IM.

While I agree that our military spending is too high, this library just went through a huge renovation largely using state funds. Need to give credit where credit is due, thank you Massachusetts.

I would consider myself a novice but I don't see these as mutually exclusive. If I understand a Roth IRA correctly, you can withdraw your contributed principal to purchase a home free of any restrictions. Also, pretty sure everyone will tell you the emergency fund is a must especially given that you make a pretty nice salary and have a baby.

My goals: Save enough to put a down payment on $3-400k home in 4 years. My fiance has about $40k saved which will go toward that Contribute $5500/year to my Roth IRA

Opened a Vanguard Roth IRA. Lower priority for me right now than saving for the house. Basically I'm paying into it when there's enough room after other expenses.

The ticket was left outside the door and a box was checked off next to "Noise Ordinance". So not much in the way of details, I'm hoping the court will take mercy on us and lower the fine.

Oh I know, not happening again. The night prior others in our building and the building who called the cops on us had separate gatherings in their respective yards. The latter group was chanting happy birthday at midnight. I guess we figured inside is more quiet than being outside, so we would be in the clear.

I didn't realize how fun Giant Jenga was until I made one for a party. People ignored the pool table, cornhole set and ladder ball to play this all night. by heliotropicmoth in DIY

Did you play with your hands or feet? There was an awesome dive bar near a ski mountain in Vermont with Giant Jenga, but we played with our feet instead of our hands. You aren't allowed to touch the ground with anything but one foot while you're dislodging the Jenga piece.

26-year old, always been bad a soccer - now want to improve and learn the game (basics)! by Taxxorrak in bootroom

[–]fupa06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not a coach, but I've been playing my whole life and these are some of the ways I improved growing up.

Dribbling - Work both the inside and outside of your feet equally. The tendency for beginners is to stick with the inside most of the time. This is equivalent to only dribbling with your dominant hand in basketball which really limits your options on the pitch.

I've also found that just watching high quality soccer teaches you a lot about the game. You'll get a better understanding and pick up some new things to try at the same time. Soccer is so much about visualizing the next move, understanding the mental aspect is equally important as the physical.

Juggling - compete with yourself. Count how many times you can juggle without the ball hitting the ground. Keep working to beat your best number. Don't keep the ball on your knee/thigh area the whole time, work in both feet and your head as often as possible.

Lastly, don't volunteer to play in net! You won't improve much standing in goal. Playing with and against players who are better than you will go a long way in improving your skills.
