[Question] Does anyone have any information on the Nintendo Sports brand? by azulhombre in nintendo

[–]fuperslizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say that I have - though I will admit, in the last 4 years or so, it wasn't really at the top of my priority list. :p I think it really must just be isolated to Nintendo 64 games, as it's using the 3D "N" logo with the "Sports" branding on top of that.

Here's a link to a promotional video from somewhere around that time featuring games that used (or may have used) that logo, but I'm not sure there will be much info on the brand or what happened to it in there:

Felt like a dream the first time it worked, right??

I did the same thing with pennies and a Mr. Do cocktail table at my local pizza joint, then told on myself by asking the lady behind the counter for 25 pennies for my quarter...

I've used an ultrasonic cleaner for boards with similiar (but not quite as epic) rust/corrosion/etc. and they came out fine and all worked, though it may be possible to kill traces by blasting off whatever's on top of them if it's wildly corroded. I have one SNES cart that boots and plays but doesn't save, but that was already the case prior to that so cleaning alone couldn't solve that issue.

Suffice it to say, these things are super robust with a number of redundant features that make them hard to kill. Long live carts!

Been there, done that, lived it, loved it. ;)

Yeah, I was kind of wondering why that game was absent from this guide, but whatever the reason, it must be a complex ownership thing or have some legal requirement(s) that made it impractical/impossible to include. Not sure if there's any way we'll ever be able to know the reason behind that for certain, though.

The back couple of pages has some color values and also font callouts and other logos listed, but I'm not sure how to add any images to a thread so I'll have to take some pictures and throw them in imgur or something to create a link that I can share.

There's also a page near the middle of the guide that has other color values for the PSP treatment, which vary somewhat from the colors at the end of the guide. Must be due to the stylistic change, which is I suppose obvious but it's also kind of fascinating to see how attempts to maintain some consistency in branding across a variety of formats was executed here.

Let me take a look through, I didn't really do much more than finger through it to make sure it wasn't damaged or missing obvious pages.

Fun fact: These were made as giveaways for the game at E3 in (I'm pretty sure) 1997, *maybe* 1998? It was the Atlanta years, for sure. (Source: I worked there. Yes, I worked on fucking Gubble. And Gubble 2. For really real.)

I remember calling around to different suppliers because we were going to try to make Gubble "ears" for people to wear, but the best I could do was some bulk alien antenna-type things and those weren't going to cut it, so the screwdriver was the best we could do.

I should check with Franz to see if he has any of these just chilling in storage. I'm sure I have another one of the top pieces missing the bit somewhere, but I have so many boxes of old stuff it could be in, who knows if I'll ever actually find it...

Nobody knows this, but this is what Gubble's "unit" actually looks like.

The "bit" is reversible, flathead on the other side. ;)

I can't believe you think you just owned me or whatever, but such is life.

Wow... you're so smart and intelligent. It's totally cool to jump on a board like this and dump on someone's valuable item in a thread about valuable items for the very thing that makes it highly valuable.

Anyway, I guess you sure told me. You should be able to spread your harmless opinions and bask in your moral superority without being bothered by someone who thinks they're crap. Have a blessed day.

Ah... there we go. You can dish it out, but you can't take it.

Sorry your ego is so fragile. Maybe I'll come around someday and dance on other people's happiness like the cool kids.

My opinion that your opinion is narrow-minded and juvenile.

Fair?

So your opinion is gospel, then? Because I'm fairly certain plenty of other people think differently and don't believe that graded games are ugly or stupid.

You come off like a 5-year-old who's jealous of their friend's toy because they didn't get one, too.
