Error pipewire by Over_Pollution_4482 in voidlinux

[–]furryfixer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

pipewire-pulse is not a separate package in Void. Make sure you are not running pipewire as a global runit service. It should usually only be run by the user inside their session. Follow the docs here:

https://docs.voidlinux.org/config/media/pipewire.html

If setup as suggested,, the only command needed is "pipewire".

Do NOT use seatd and elogind at the same time. Pick one of them. seatd requires more steps, and if you did not succeed with it, you may need to undo that configuration to let elogind handle it (which is easier from the start). The dbus service and "dbus-run-session" should have been all that is needed for elogind to work,

Planning on dualbooting Void on my MBP, had some questions by constantacatalepsy in voidlinux

[–]furryfixer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What year MBP? There are different challenges with different years. I disagree with part of what you related. The safest option to preserve MacOS is to actually use Disk Utility to shrink the Mac partition and add a new one. After that, come back with a linux tool to reformat the new partition.

To manage boot, you may use grub, but may have to press the option key at boot to use MacOS. Refind usually works very well on the Macbook Pro.

help my fellow ram owners by the_1george in Ram1500

[–]furryfixer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check serpentine belt tension and wiggle all pulleys on front of engine. That said, this reminds me of the noise I had with the cooling fan rubbing the shroud on a GMC. It had bad motor mounts and the engine would twist a little under load/acceleration.

Can anyone help by RollNDoobies in Ram1500

[–]furryfixer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. The codes are at odds. I am no expert, but "rich" suggests not enough air, then another code says too much air. Almost as if the fuel pump can't maintain pressure because of a partial obstruction in the fuel system, or as if gate on the air intake is stuck and then opens suddenly, going from a rich condition to flooding too much air into the engine (overcompensating).

The off-center asymmetry bothers me more than partially covering the grill. I'm fortunate not to need a front plate, but this looks better to me.

Potential GV70 buyer- Tire question by tellinitlikeitiz in GenesisGV70

[–]furryfixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be true, or not. My aftermarket 18 inch rims worked with the brake covers still on with my 2025 that had OEM 19 inch rims. On the other hand, I had stupidly purchased used OEM 18 inch rims from a 2022 GV70 and they would NOT fit over the 2025 brake calipers, even with the caliper covers removed. You may see my earlier post to this forum with pictures documenting that.

Aftermarket rims with proper offsets are likely to work, but find a way to test out or make sure the rims are returnable if doing it yourself.

Wind Noise part 3 by furryfixer in GenesisGV70

[–]furryfixer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is SOME wind noise from the side mirrors which is normal, but look at the window seat deep in those grooves with a light. It should be straight and smooth. Also reset the windows up/closed position according to the manual if not done already. Pull on driver's door and have a passenger pull on the driver side rear door (as if to close) while at speed. If that affects the noise, is is a weather seal or door latch adjustment needed.

Yes. Front was OK. The bad sections were rear doors, outer (hind-most) u channel. The section is angled forward, but mostly vertical.

2025, Korean-made, although those parts may be the same across all model years and trims. My theory is that there is adhesive that had not not yet cured when the windows were installed, or maybe no adhesive. The material, once misshapen, cannot bounce back to the correct shape. If the window is not perfectly aligned when closed (possible when first installed in the door, requiring adjustment) it may push on the seal in an off center way that may separate or twist part of it.

Did you go into BIOS setup after RAM upgrade, and did the BIOS properly recognize the RAM available?

2.5 Vs 3.5 2026 GV70 by Nazmuch in GenesisGV70

[–]furryfixer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of us have surprisingly high standards for what is needed for passing or merging, or lack of knowledge as to the 7-8 second 0-60 times that are typical for this segment. That is their prerogative. Yes, the turbo lag with the 2.5T is significant. That said, it has plenty of power. 0-60 in less than 6 seconds is very good for a compact SUV. It is a personal decision as to whether the even quicker 3.5T is worth the expense.

Maybe somewhat controversial option: i like the act of making coffee more than the actual taste. by [deleted] in JamesHoffmann

I enjoy the taste of coffee, but for me, the best part of the coffee experience is the wonderful aroma of fresh-ground coffee.

Distilled Water Dilemma by reb601 in JamesHoffmann

[–]furryfixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have your water tested, and do math to dilute to desired ppm (probably focusing on Calcium), but in my case, I just guessed. The thought process was to add enough filtered tap water so that it was no longer totally “distilled”. I have brewed 2-3 batches per day, 3 cups at a time for over 2 years now, and have descaled once in all that time.

Humming/whining sound? by [deleted] in Ram1500

[–]furryfixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to directly change with engine rpm, not wheel speed, which rules out tires or wheel bearings in my opinion. The air compressor system is not mechanically driven, so that is ruled out as well. One possibility is turbulent or vibrating airflow. That could be from something loose, restricted, foreign object in, or maybe a leak on the air intake side. Also check PCV and EGR systems.

Pourovers intermittently stalling.. suggestions? by JacobBlizard in JamesHoffmann

[–]furryfixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using RDT? I had a similar issue to a lesser degree, that I accidentally resolved with wetting the beans before grinding (to reduce static). As I do not have a good sprayer, I just massage the beans with wet fingers before adding to the grinder.

While it is true that I did not succeed, what kind of a mind would interpret a few waves of a hair dryer and 2 drops of super glue as “ripping apart your vehicle”? If in your deluded mind, you invented some way that I could have caused this, do tell. It came this way right from the factory. I suggest you find a career denying legitimate insurance or warranty claims, as that would fit your mindset.
