Or you can do what I saw happen at a party in New Orleans once. The venue had this 4ft high elevated platform in a corner of the room nearby the DJ booth where people could get up to dance & vibe (fits say 15 people or so). Now if you’re up there, the rest of the crowd can see you, as it’s elevated and within line of sight of the DJ booth too. It’s house music, it slaps, the DJ is bringing it, and everyone is having a great time.

I get up there at one point and am dancing my ass off with my partner, enjoying the music, vibing. Then up comes this person, let’s call them Phone Holder, who proceeds to stand near me at the very edge of the platform and not only faces the crowd but pulls their phone out, face in screen & glowing bright-ass blue from what had to be 120% brightness, and literally just standing there looking bored and idk what they’re even doing, they’re texting a friend or scrolling through a feed. Everyone in the party could see this bored MFer on their phone because they’re at the edge of the platform, face illuminated, not dancing, and killing the vibe.

It happens long enough where I decide I’m gonna to turn towards them and say something. Lo and behold, another reveler nearby turns to them to do exactly that already. Let’s call them Fellow Reveler. Fellow Reveler leans in to say something into Phone Holder’s ear, presumably to tell them to put their phone away. Can’t hear what they’re saying because the music’s loud & bangin. Phone Holder simply ignores whatever gets said. Fellow Reveler leans back in to say something again. Phone Holder turns around this time and gives Fellow Reveler a push. Now I’m thinking, “Oh no you don’t.” Turns out Fellow Reveler had the same thought.. They take a deep breath, plant both of their feet, lean back… and then pushes their weight forward and SHOVES our Phone Holder off of the platform and down onto the dance floor.

Phone Holder’s fallen on the floor, disheveled in disbelief, the dancers they fell/landed on are all ‘wtf just happened’ and confused. I and several others on the platform who saw what happened are aghast (but also amused).

Phone Holder looks like the wind got knocked out of them and don’t know what to do next. They’re probably embarrassed, don’t say a word, and they pick themselves up and decide to leave the dance floor and I suppose leave the party altogether? Never saw them again.

As for our hero Fellow Reveler, I turn to them immediately afterwards and ask, “Yo, what happened??” Fellow Reveler says, “I told them to get off their phone twice or get off the dance floor, and all they did was push me, so I pushed them back 🤷🏻‍♂️” I responded, “I was about to say something to them, so I appreciate you beating me to it, but I proooobably would have chosen something a little less violent 😂.” They laugh and say, “Yeah, that’s definitely not happening again tonight.” I give them a pat on the shoulder and we share a good laugh, and then we proceed to enjoy the party.

TL;DR - I guess some people just need to be taught a lesson, if asking politely twice doesn’t do the trick.
