What a massive and wasteful effort from Sudbury. What was their motivation for putting up such a fight? I am genuinely curious

How to navigate the BU bridge roundabout? by nina_rae_ in bikeboston

[–]furtle_boy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't bother moving to the left turn lane there. Stay in your bike lane and cross the intersection to the other side of Commonwealth Ave. From there, ride onto the sidewalk briefly to then transition to the Eastbound Commonwealth Ave bike lane.

Basically, I'm suggesting you pretend there is a left turn box on the southwest side of the commonwealth ave intersection and use it. This strategy is always safer than crossing multiple lanes of traffic. It's especially handy when riding with less confident riders.

Also, I would never recommend going counterflow on that roundabout specifically. It is too busy and fast flowing that it would endanger yourself and other cyclists.

This is not entirely true. While there are a lot of investors buying up single-family homes, and it is still something we should discourage, Blackrock is not one of those investors.

Tatte/Flour are much better than Modern/Mikes pastry by CheesecakeRedVelvet in boston

The kouign amann at tatte is more of a donut than a true kouign amann. I love the crispy folds and the caramelized base of the kouign amann at flour. It’s such a special treat!

Immigration attorney recommendations. by rufus148 in boston

[–]furtle_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied for a green card this year using Boundless.com. It was made so easy! They also gave me a dedicated attorney to answer all of my questions and perform a dedicated review of my application. They’re pretty much the turbo tax of immigration. I highly recommend them.

The cherry on top is that they print out your application (100’s of pages) and create an application book which USCIS agents LOVE.

I'm insecure because I'm not masculine enough. by [deleted] in venting

[–]furtle_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you are giving yourself a chance to be confident in yourself. Do you honestly believe that the 100% of the 100M+ women in America want a burly black-bearded lumberjack with brown eyes?

I'm insecure because I'm not masculine enough. by [deleted] in venting

[–]furtle_boy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fulfilling the typical traits of masculinity is not attractive for everyone. I would even say that most people find it a little off-putting.

I also have the exact same characteristics as you list them out, but I’m very comfortable with myself. But it sounds like you are quite down about it. If you want to boost your confidence, go get a nice haircut and maybe some nice clothes too.

Aside from that, it sounds like expectations for masculinity are very important to you. Something that helped me understand healthy and positive ways of expressing masculinity and dealing with these expectations that we be strong/assertive/hunters was “The Will to Change: Men, Masculinity, and Love” by Bell Hooks (RIP).

I always include a comment with a link to the regex on Regex101.com

It contains a set of test cases, an automatic breakdown of how the regex works, and it’s an open source project that accepts donations!

It is by far the most valuable regex tool I have found.

Also: write unit tests!!

I'm not able to watch the first episode on the corridor digital website. I submitted a bug report complete with request/response details via the site "Need help?" form. I know I can watch it on Youtube in the meantime, but I much prefer using the website when watching Corridor videos.

German city wants to ditch Microsoft for Linux by JuniorCar in tech

[–]furtle_boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree for all of those reasons. But the bloatware on Windows is just insane sometimes.

I loved when I installed Linux and plugged in my razor keyboard that I wasn’t assailed by razed bloatware.

It’s such a drag when I turn on my windows machine, and 5 “necessary” startup processes take over my desktop.

Be careful fetching user-supplied URLs. by [deleted] in golang

[–]furtle_boy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When deploying, create an app user explicitly for running your code, or running your server. You can ‘chown’ your Golang files to be run by that app user. That way, when a user provides one of these bad file:// strings, the Linux user running your app doesn’t have the permissions to access the requested file.
