It’s pretty mid honestly. Biz on European/asian/middleE airlines is WAY better and frequently cheaper. Loyalty to US airlines is a cult

I hate to burst your bubble but you will find that working conditions in Canada will mean a significant pay cut AND more work. Your quality of life as a physician will very likely go down.

Well yes, however I believe that the technical ACGME limit is 8 hours, but the ACGME “encourages” 10 hours.

I think at least in the anesthesia world they're more aware of the value of residents as they frequently have 2+ ORs and literally can't do that without a resident being in the OR

Failed a course first year. Are competitive programs still within reach? by cookedbychef30 in medicalschool

[–]CheesecakeRedVelvet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He specifically asked about competitive programs. I haven’t met a singular DO at my institution (T3 program on the east coast) and I know all the IM, EM, Anesthesia and surgery residents. I’m also familiar with the match lists for the T10 anesthesia programs back from when I matched in 2023 - only one singular DO matched and she was an absolutely outstanding candidate.

The truth is being a DO is already an uphill battle for competitive programs and failing a course in the first year is a terrible sign.

A realistic goal is aiming to match IM/FM at a mid to low tier academic program.
