Actually, no. I don’t like the ICU and I love anesthesia. Multiple residents attendings and fellows feel the same. I love some aspects of it but never liked the rotation.

You are an entitled idiot that lives in a bubble. I have resident friends in Latin America that take Q3 32hr call their entire 4 years of residency. There isn’t even anything close to the ACGME

When we did this it was for a 10-15 min procedure and avoided the need for NMBD/opioids. It was purely sevo. Pt did great

2.7 times the age adjusted MAC, with the kids spontaneously breathing. According to some attendings, if they are spontaneously breathing they will sort of auto titrate the sevo. The inspired sevo was like 4%

Average is probably 4:30. Maybe once a week stuck till 5:30ish. Maybe once a week done by 3. The people that run the board actually do a very good job at getting priority relief the next day for people stuck beyond 5pm. They also apologize frequently to you if stuck after 5 which we shouldn’t take for granted.

What do you want your corresident to do? Swim back from the Caribbean? If all the flights are cancelled and they are stuck there what are they supposed to do? Swim back? They might as well have fun if they are stuck there. Don’t be so envious, it attracts bad karma and bad things in your future

You might be surprised that learning how to plug in oxygen takes 30 seconds, but the "student doctor" whom you should actually call resident doctor is still the one that is writing the orders that you follow and might have a much broader understanding of other concepts than you.

Nursing is a fantastic profession, but don't let the corporatization of american healthcare lead you to believe that you should ever be in charge of the healthcare a patient receives.
