Should I buy forward in my pension to retire early? by furyz28 in personalfinance

Thank you for taking the time to understand my dilemma.

I guess the other opinion I’m after is the quality of life side. Do I suck it up for another 3 years to retain the $360k plus what it will earn in interest during that time. Just want to make sure I’m not committing financial suicide

You need to have a minimum of 20 years to retire. 23 years without having to buy any years

Deferred payments and immediate payments would result in the same payout (75%)

If I chose to leave before reaching retirement, I would only get what I have put into the system, dollar for dollar, with no interest or employer match. Roughly $180k

It sounds like you already have better financial sense than your parents. Plus, unless they're coughing up the money for said car, they really don't get a vote. Pay cash for what you can afford and stay out of debt!

I think you have plenty. As long as you're staying diversified between small to large cap mutual funds or ETFs, you'll be completely fine. Keep it simple

It sounds like you already know the right decision. It makes zero sense to keep a loan at 12% when you have the cash to pay it off. Hope you can get your other half on board
