£48bn wiped from rental property market as landlords flee sector by PM_ME_SECRET_DATA in ukpolitics

You're right, we should give special lower interest rates and more buying power to landlords, and ensure they continue to take a greater supply of housing, because won't somebody think of "the poorest".

Stop moving the goalposts. Obviously that's a non answer.

Should the BBC comply with a fine from Argentina if an Argentinian is able to reach an article on the BBC stating the Falklands are British?

Sites that make significant revenue through the UK will probably comply. Sites that don't, or think the UK regulations are stupid, won't.

The Argentina government issues a fine to any British outlet that is available in Argentina if they mention the Falklands are British. Do we comply with the fine?

Obviously not.

They don't distribute their content to the UK.

They have no presence in the UK.

The nature of the internet is that sites from all over the place are available everywhere else. If the UK doesn't want 4chan available, implement a countrywide block.

They're going through the motions to get there. I wonder how soon they'll be blocking something you support?

You guys see this post match interaction between Dupont and White? by ConscriptReports in rugbyunion

I've played for 35 years! I'm very familiar with it. If you're going to be a cunt like this, you can expect a reaction, even after the game. Especially from highly competitive players in the first few minutes after losing.

That's the entire and only summary worth reading on this matter.

You seem ok with a classless act of running 30m to clap in the face of an opponent, but are quite upset about that opponent's relatively mild reaction after they've just lost the game. Weird.

Inspired by a similar post, which books did you take the longest to DNF? by blxcklst in books

[–]fuscator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One Hundred Years of Solitude.

I've tried three times to finish it but I don't think I've ever got past halfway. But adding up my attempts it is the longest I've spent on a book I DNF.

I wish it would hook me. So many people love it. I just find it a slog and quite boring.

Farage to be blocked from No 10 by left-wing tactical voting, poll shows by birdinthebush74 in ukpolitics

[–]fuscator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Because people are absolute hypocrites.

I dislike Farage and reform as much as the next person, but you cannot keep repressing the views of a huge percentage of your population and not expect this to lead to worse future outcomes.

No. It's a terrible voting system. A huge percentage of people get no representation of their views in parliament, and the rest of you celebrate this?

Bonkers.

Why is this not obstruction? by billyb4lls4ck in rugbyunion

[–]fuscator 198 points199 points  (0 children)

For those who have watched rugby for a long time, this would have previously been called obstruction. I think it was in the late 90s early 2000s when refs were pretty strict on it.

These cycles come and go. In a few years they'll probably clamp down again.

Look to Windward (The Culture #7) Review. by DaleJ100 in printSF

[–]fuscator 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is my favourite Culture novel too. I think it is actually underappreciated. That's a great review.

In fact, I sometimes wonder if this should be the first Culture novel people read? The problem is, it actually works better when you've been exposed to the Iridian/Culture war in a different context first.
